I returned to my native SC 5 years ago, after living 30 years in the Phila region. I've gone nuts down here planting everything tropical that will grow in my zone 8a climate. I am also growing out of zone queen palms, CIDP, and toddy date palms with winter protection. I planted several bananas last year that were supposed to be cold hardy in my zone, but only the musa basjoo survived. I lost a stunning red abyssinian (zone 9a) last winter because I didn't mulch it. I'm looking forward to learning a lot from this forum.

Welcome Donnacreation to the org. Sorry to hear of your loss. Here in Maryland, (7a), I only manage to overwinter my basjoos. The rest are dug are stored in the basement, along with all palms except for Trachycarpus fortunei (windmill) and Needle palm (Rhapidophyllum hystrix). This coming winter I'm going to experiment with one of my European Fan Palms (Chamaerops humilis).

Hello Donnacreation & Welcome to the Org. from the Sportsman's Paradise :^) I think we all suffered some losses with this last winter. Hopefully we can get a couple mild one's from mother-nature to make up for it. :^)

Welcome to Bananas, where in SC are you? I'm near the NC border south east of Charlotte. Little town called Pageland...
