I am very ignorant about diseases that might harm my banana here in northern CA. I live in zone 9b (closer to 10a) it is warm and dry here, sometimes hot. By warm I mean 80-90s and hot I mean 100+.
What diseases can harm bananas in this kind of environment?

I guess that fungus is out of question, if you have low humidity. And so are all fungus related diseases.

In the winter you'll have to watch out for rot. Where are you located?

I was wondering about fungus.
I am 45 minutes east of San Francisco. It is at the very edge of farm territory. The city I live and the one next to it used to be filled with orchards. They are building over it all now.

I live in the same area. I am guessing you live in Brentwood or Antioch.
In any case, this time of year thgere is not much to worry about. Check for ants climbing the p-stems and farming aphids or scalr(or whatever). Water and feed generously. Water from the bottom, do not water the crown to avoid rot in the new growth.
Once winter sets in, stop watering and feeding during the rainy and freezing days.....let them die back and once spring comes along, you will se new vigorous growth......Cut off the sooty and molded parts and resume...
Take care,
Jonh
