Due to computer error (never mine of course) I am now using Maserati as my screen name (changed from Bananas.) I made a few posts last year before winter arrived in Long Island, NY. I wrapped my one 7 foot high basjoo in burlap, the other in burlap and tar paper. Piled mulch on the roots. In January they both fell over dead. No pups ever grew. I grew another 2 indoors. One is huge and the other is 3 feet high. They are both in pots on my lawn. They are going, leafless, into the garage this winter.

Who is the person from my town of Massapequa? My windmill palm survived the winter, but only 2 small leaves lived. I used Christmas lights, hay and burlap, all in a cage. I just ordered another from TyTy in GA. They promised me that it will live, and not lose leaves this winter. Plus they guaranteed it! I am skeptical, but he told me they send out at least one a week to NY. How is your's and I'd like to see it.

Do not trust TYTY.. Plants are never really healthy. I am in NJ and have had 2 windmill palms (bought from a local guy) survive for 3 years. I build a shelter wrap it in very thick plastic with thermometers that turn on at 30 degrees. They are about 12-13 foot trees.

Welcome back.. :^) I'd stay away from Tyty as well. Find a local place with a quality product. :^)

I just joined and I love growing banana's.
I started out with 1 plant that died over the winter but gave me 6 pups in the fall. I then planted them and tried some inside and some outside with only the ones inside making it. The dead ones outside gave me many pups this past fall. I know have between planted, given away, potted, and lastly pups about 75 musa's off of that original plant from 2 years ago. CRAZY.

I have couple of questions:

#1- I have a 3'-4' tall musa with several pups. What should I do? Try to kill them? Leave them till bigger? I want the main plant to do well but I think if there are too many pups they will kill her later tryin to remove all of them.. Thoughts?

#2- Some of the leaves look very green but torn. It is not from the wind. It looks like they are shriveling up a bit. I have gallery pics and it told me not to add them to this but it seems as people on here do so I will put 1 up. If there isa way to liknk the pic to show up in the thread please let me know..

Thanks All

Adam

I too have heard many bad things about TyTy, and many of their claims fall into the "too good to be true" category, in my opinion.

However, I have had very good service and plants from Goin' Bananas and from GreenEarth (Banana Trees Banana Plants (http://www.greenhousebusiness.com/bananaplants.html)). The former has the widest selection available, the plants are tissue grown, and both the service and the prices are good for what you get.
