Check this thing out. It has what I believed were male flowers that just wont die and fall off. Any chance these are going to mature into something? Even if not it's really cool looking in the garden so I'm not in a big rush to cut it off.

Here you can see the little guys that won't die.

And here is the flower that wont drop it's pedals.

Mitchel- Do you know which one that is? The persistant bracts is a characteristic of Balbsiana and crosses according to Gabe. Thats neat.

Zac, I have no idea what it is. The person I got the pup from only said it was a lady finger. That doesn't tell me much. I'd love to figure it out though!

I have some that need to come off but the space they are growing in doesn't leave me much room for digging. If I can get one off that looks good I'll send it your way.

That isn't 1000 Fingers is it? It seems it has a ton of bisexual flowers on it, at least thats what it looks like to me.

The only 1000 fingers I have seen was at Pitangadiego's jungle/front yard. If my feable memory serves me right his was taller but this is the first generation so the pups will most likely grow taller. Also this plant only gets about 3/4 day of full sun even during the summer, and in winter only gets about 1/4 day of full sun thanks to the bamboo blocking it.

Maybe I should post another male flower picture? I just went and maually stripped off the old petals to reveal the fresh male flowers.

That is just a 'Dwarf Cavendish'. They have persistant male flowers, it is normal. You can cut off the rest off below the fruit like any other banana to relieve stress on the plant from all the weight.

Gabe, this is the same plant that I showed you that you though might be a dwarf Brazillian. The leaves are kinda long and slender with no red color. Do you remember it? It's right next to my Bamboo against my neighbors garage wall and just in front of my Apples. I should also add that I have tasted the fruit from the parent plant and they were very small and slender with a sweet perfume smell and not much acidity to the flavor.

yes i do remember it, but you never know until it flowers really. Brazillian is a rather distinct fruit bunch. Also sometimes the red coloration does not show up depending on light conditions with Cavendish. concrats though, you seem to have a very productive little yard there!

Thanks Gabe, I'll consider it a DC now!

How are the Klotek doing? I would love to see them flower. Mine are doing good, thanks again for being so kind!

I had a DC bloom for me about ten years ago and I don't remember it looking like that.

Your welcome! The first pup from the mother plant has close to 9 feet of PS now but no bloom in sight. The leaves look pretty normal with no more thin spots. The mutant is still a variegated mutant and I have not removed it from it's mother yet. It has a an aphid problem that I need to address but other than that it's still growing. It has about 5-6 feet of PS now.

Did you keep both the Klotek pups or send one to your friend with the nursery?

Which is even more funny, since Gabe is from a small Colorado town, kinda like Southpark, only with real people.

Yep, I have been to the Southpark Gabe lives in and its pretty small, but boy are there beautiful views from up there. It would be great for a Summer( thought Brief) home, but too damn cold for me in the winter.

Here are the male flowers as of today, 10-23-06

In looking at tons of pictures of Dwarf Cavendish the bunch looks right but the leaves are more slender than the others pictured online. Also none of the pups have ever shown any red color at any stage. On Jon's website he claims there to be many varieties of DC. Any idea which one this might be?

Gabe:
Waht's the difference in the brazilian fruit bunch? Honestly I've always thought that they were "kind of a cavendish variety".

'Brazillian' is rather easy to spot, they always start out with very small fingers that seem to plump up later rather than right at the start, the fruit bunch is also more horizontal and the fingers have a sorta swirling twist action to the bunch form going on.
