Im curious on what your favorite banana plant are plants are. And why. I decided mine is the Musa Bordelon. I got one off ebay from a lady that is growing it in her garden she did not even know the name of it, I been watching it as it grows in awe. I love the color it grows fast and I read were it is real cold hardy. I wound up getting two more. I fell in love with this plant ! By far its my favorite besides my California Gold .

Before Saturday, I'll have three different kinds of banana plants: dwarf Cavendish, Black Thai, and Ice Cream. If the last two [in my list] grow as fast and as big as I've been reading in some of the threads here, they will definitely be my favorites! :D I want to make the back yard look tropical [especially for parties] and standing under banana trees sounds great! When I first got the "tropical" idea, I was wanting tall palm trees but that just isn't going to happen in zone 7... but banana trees will look just as awesome! :D

My favorite is an edible banana :^) I'm not choosing just one. I have many favorites ( the one's that don't die is my final answer) :^)

From Musa sp.,I would say mine is Musa itinerans var. gigantea followed by Musa sikkimensis,Musa textilis and Musa peekelii. I have none of these unfortunately and i need to wait quite a few years for my palms to grow first before adding either in my Pyrgos garden and possibly to future gardens too...
From the edible Musa,i like ''Ice Cream'' a lot,as well as Brazilian,Mysore,African Rhino Horn,Ebun Musak, the Tall reds,Red Kru,etc The taller they grow, the more i like them but they need to have at least some color on them! Saba is not a favourite yet for example. The next in size with some color,is though!
From the Ensete,i love Ensete ventricosum and got 2 of them, one in the ground. Ensete glaucum is good too, like a wonderfull looking Musa but nothing more. E. ventricosum is the most spectacular in my eyes from the Ensete genus with its fluorescent red petioles and midribs!

Pisang Klotek.

Why: best tasting bananas I've ever had, pretty plant, not too tall, heavy producer, I own it. :)

I hear you there.. The only reason people that stop here is they are interested in the firewood in the front yard.. :^)

Gotta say my #1 favorite is Ice Cream because it has been a consistent grower indoors and outdoors all year for me. #2 has to be Super Dwarf Cavendish. Good grower, actually faster than IC leaf-wise (though not height wise, clearly). Main plant died over the winter, but the pup took over very strongly and has since done much better than the original plant. I love the very thick leaves and solid stature it has. Definitely a great plant!

If I had to make a choice right now it would be the Dwarf Red.

At this moment I would say my dwarf cavendish, however
in a week who knows perhasp ice cream or zebrina.

I like how huge the dc leaves get at a small age and the stoutness.

Many of my plants are small and have not fruited yet, so picking one would be misleading.

This is my first year as Banana grower but so far I would say Ice Cream but my Gran Nain are putting out some impressive leaves so I am starting to lean toward that one.

I think my 2 favorite banana plants that I have is an Ice Cream banana (like the fast growth, thick leaves) and my Saba (started off kind of slow, but has recently grown much faster!).

It seems whichever one I'm looking at is my favorite! I just love them all. I have a greenhouse full and I kind of hate to sell them. It's more like adoption... I guess I'm a banana hoarder!
I will have to say I'm really partial to Bordelons because they are so easy, pretty and pup so much. I also love my ice cream banana because I've had it for about 6 years now, we've done a lot of drinking together all summer, and it's thrown bananas to me for the last three years every year.
I'm starting to think as I look out the window and frost is forecast possibly for this weekend that maybe ladyfinger isn't my favorite, because I have one about 10 feet tall I'm looking at that needs to be dug! LOL...after I get it in, it may be my favorite...

So you're a hoarder?
I have two little SDCs and a Basjoo coming in.
Hope one day I can have a line of banana trees along my fence in my back yard.

I can see how you can get addicted to growing banana plants.
Many (i think) look/taste, grow/differently and I'm sure most of us are curious about each of them. I know some people on here have over 6 different kinds growing in their yards.

After I have some success with what I have, maybe I'll order another hardy banana plant next season. I wonder which other type is good in colder weather.

A banana plant always amazes me. They all produce beautiful leaves and different types of fruits.I like all of them. I am not growing all of them just because of limited space. I am trying to find out what best tastes banana fruit? So I am concentrated to grow most rated edible ones.So far the best-tasted banana fruit for me is Chundillakkannan. (Koombillakkannan, chundillan). And Njalipoovan takes 2nd. I heard good things about lactan, icecream, namwah, Rajapuri and yangambi. But never had a chance to taste them yet. They are all in my wanted to grow list.
