They are awesome. There are some hybrids of them also, like Jubaea x Butia and Jubaea x Syagrus.

They are beautiful and because of the slow growth, worth lots of $$. I did collect seed but there were three different sizes. I am not sure if only the large seed will germinate. Wonder if the'll mind if I bring a ladder and get some of the larger seed.

Thats definitely a jubaea and an old one at that (probably at least 40 years old give or take). I really doubt they dislike salty air since they naturally grow in marine climates where temps are relatively cool and an ocean breeze blows on shore. Definitely not lovers of heat or humidity but it can stand some heat and even some humidity. These are one of those palms that california can grow and florida cant!

It smells absolutely differently than cocos, so if it smells like ***, it's Jubaea. I've heard that in some countries it is eaten. That's difficult to imagine. A wonderful and precious palm, but I haven't mastered the germination yet. It prefers stratification!

The best way i know for germinating them is to leave the seeds in the ground an forget them...One year (or two) you have achance to see a sprout...

Soon the jungle...

That would be nice. I planted about 200 seed. Some on top of the water heater, some in an aquarium propagator and some on a heat mat.
