I really need to find out what type of banana this is and would very much appreciate any assistance. The first photo is an ariel view. It's a tad ragged but seems healthy enough.

This is a view of the stem.

This is a developing leaf.

And finally, this is a pup attached to it.

Thanks much, in advance, for any help you can provide!

I would guess that it is a Super Dwarf Cavendish based on the red markings and the close spacing of the leaves.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking as well.

Thanks much, dudes! But it looks like another fail. I suppose I can keep it as a bush but what I'm really hoping for is a banana tree that grows well in my zone and can get tall enough to provide shade; something fairly low maintenance preferably.

Have you contacted other members of Bananas from within your area that might have suitable banana plants you can grow?
I noticed you have not pinned your location to the map yet. Might want to give that utility a closer look, it is useful... if everyone participates :)

Thanks much! I hadn't really considered the utility of the Member Map before. I will definitely set that up and check it out. And I must say, this is one of the most congenial and helpful sites I've ever joined. At many sites, I wouldn't expect help from another member, let alone the Admin.

Sorry, but was reading and never new about the map thing. Posted my info and I'm in the user list but not on the map?

Apparently the map is more or less an elective utility. I would definitely take advantage of that particular feature, though! It seems an excellent way to locate useful information and resources. Btw, be sure to find your coordinates, in a road atlas, before you start. It will require them.
