Am I getting this right, that it took about three weeks for this kind of growth or has there been more time in between?
(I was calculating the time between your first pics here and the ones you posted today)
Today, it's been first time for me, that I received a corm like this. All my other plants were young pups, potted with roots and leaves, when I got them.
I'm not nervous, but doing this for the first time I wonder how much time will pass to see new growth. I potted a corm of a California Gold today. Weather is perfect.

It's all that fertilizer he uses.

Has a lot to do with soil prep.. I mix a sand bucket of pot ash into my soil mix, and the Mycorrhizal Fungi doesn't hurt that's for sure. :^) The fertilizer is the bonus program. :^)

I had a plan too. Last winter used frost proof cloth. All main banana pstems survived. Leaves got burned up a bit, but they are growing out fast now with 8 to 12 leaves per. First flower was the Hua Moa. Lots more to come. Running 2 pstems on 4 mats for the first time.
Hey Michael -- what are you doing on the computer? You were supposed to go crabbing today.

All good varieties as is Kru, Pitogo and White Iholena...nice to see some of the less common varieties circulating on the board. Dan has a very impressive collection (he has the climate for it)!
Be nice to see a thread on what some of the less common fruiting musas that members are growing.
We are growing:
Pisang Jari Buri (aka Buay, etc.,)

Thanks for the compliment Rmp. Everything came from Growing Bananas and Nanaman except for a few.
Yes I have the climate for it --- but only for 355 or so days a year. Last winter's 9 day cold snap almost did me in!!!

I agree! Chris, any idea when you might be able to ship that 'Pitogo' we've been talking about? Let me know if I need to send some $$ your way. I know you've had a busy summer trying to get caught up on some things but I thought I'd check in with you.

Unfortunately I know the feeling...only takes one or two bad nights (of cold)..in our case this year over a week straight.
This past Winter was bad for everyone..

Yep..Going Bananas..I purchased my first banana from Bill Lessard in 1993 and his book. Prior to that I only grew bananas passed on by other gardeners. The vast majority of my bananas are from Going Bananas..it was fun in the mid 90's walking through the grove with Don and digging out huge corms....and walking past all of the unusual varieties (many of which have since been removed from the catalog). Hopefully the summer and fall will bring lots of rain without the Hurricanes, I always enjoy seeing your pictures and reading of your progress. Good luck!
