Just wanted to say thanks for all the amazing plants you sent me a week ago from New Jersey. I just love them!

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2978.gif

This thread will be a place for me to show off all the cool stuff you gave me as it grows and matures. Here today, are the pair of Super Dwarf Cavendish banana pups. As you can see, they are already growing beautifully...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/DSCI2774.jpg

Here too today, is that beautiful Yucca Rostrata perennial succulent called "Sapphire Skies". It's already sprouting new leaves from the center. What a gorgeous specimen that will be someday!

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/DSCI2775.jpg

Maybe when you return from your trip, you can post a shot of your mature plant, for others to see here also.

For those curious...

This plant will be short and elegant (4 feet) and over the years the leaves become a powder blue color. It can handle temps as low as -25°C...-15°F!!!

: o

What a totally cool plant. I might stick it out in the garden. When I saw yours Bob, I just had to have it. Thanks so much for buying me a seedling at the nursery. You're the best! I just hope mine is as stunning as yours is someday.

Those Cavendish babies are quite fat for their height, maybe you shouldn't feed them so much, Holly. :)
Nah, but really, looking good!

Very nice hbl. How do we get to see Bob's mature plant?

The Hollyberry Lady
05-25-2010, 05:50 PM
Here it is Patty. Isn't it stunning?! Over the years it develops a stout trunk. This was Bob's post from another site...

Here's a Yucca Rostrata thats become one of my favorite plants ... it 's tropical looking and completely hardy without any protection in zone 6! In time it will be over 10 feet tall and resemble( in my snow belt mind) a palm.

http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/ss149/bob_075/th_DSCN0668.jpg (http://s570.photobucket.com/albums/ss149/bob_075/?action=view&current=DSCN0668.jpg)

The only difference between the one in Bob's picture and the one he sent me, is that "Sapphire Skies" only gets 4 feet and the leaves will be much more blue in time.

Also trying to root the "Sticks on Fire" cutting you sent...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/DSCI2783.jpg

It doesn't like to be covered and wants to be in total shade. Hope I can get it to root...

Good news...

Last night I dug up the 'sticks on fire' (Euphorbia Tirucalli) cutting to see what was going on and noticed some thick white roots developing!

: o

How cool that I got it to root after only a little over a week. Thanks so much for it Bob.

Have I told you that you're the best?!

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/149069-14.gif

Here's how it will look someday...

Welcome back, Bob! :03:

Glad you like the thread. After that great box you sent stuffed with fantastic plants, how could I not thank you and make a big deal of it?!

Couldn't wait to show you...

Yesterday, I transplanted one of the SDC's you sent into my Lily garden! It will get sun from 7:30am to 7:30pm!

Anyway, here it is this morning, loving it's new home...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/DSCI2811.jpg

Can't wait to watch the difference between one grown in the garden, and one grown in a pot in my south window. Totally cool.

Here too is the 2nd Plumeria cutting you sent. Hate to point out what it resembles. Then again, I don't think I have to! :ha:....

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/DSCI2825.jpg

It's already got a bud on it! I think it's rooting nicely.

Here too is your pink Columbine...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/DSCI2826.jpg

The leaves that were on it when you sent it, all yellowed and died, which is normal from being in a box for over a week, but the roots began to quickly send up new leaves...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/DSCI2828.jpg

It's going in my garden beside my purple "winky" Columbine...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/DSCI2815.jpg

I think the pink and purple will be nice together.

Also too, here's one of the Basjoos you sent...

I do a few trades and sometimes just send things out to some for future trades or to folks who like my plants IC but ,at this point the Hollyberry lady and I just send what we have and the other wants and figure in time we'll have them all:ha:

I was going to ask you about your stuff Penny, so I'm glad you brought it up...

Try uploading your pics through photobucket like I do, then just copy & paste the 'direct link' code on photobucket and bring it here. Hope you can straighten it around because I'd just love to see some shots, and I know Bob would too.

Are you planning to grow your Basjoo in a pot this season or in the garden? So happy to hear things are doing well for you.

You've inspired me to experiment and I've now got some beautyberry cuttings in a glass of water also. They look great! The ones in soil though are looking fantastic as well and are about to root soon - I can tell.

Feel free to post your shots in this thread too Pen, or wherever you like. Can't wait...

looking great Hollyberry.... there was a bud on that one when I sent it and it must have got knocked off or failed.... not unusual with a small plant but thats what caused the plumeria to branch the way it has... It's well on its way. Just rememeber that at that size and coming from a cuttting it may not flower next year but likely will every year after.

Just to show what a nice fellow Bob is, in today's mail I received an Ice Cream pup that must have been 4 ft. tall! And it had grown an inch since Bob packed it up for shipping!! Since my camera is kaput, I can't put a nice pic of this beauty here, but take my word for it, Senor Bob has done it again! Thanks Bob; as usual you are one of the most generous members here. Hip, Hip for Bob!

The Hollyberry Lady

I have to agree, Howard...

Bob's just the greatest guy and he really goes out of his way to send fabulous stuff. I have been amazed by his boxes a few times and know I will be again. I don't think I enjoy trading with anyone more.

Ok, now that Bob's head is swelled and he thinks he's just about God's gift to the trading world and this site...:ha:...he still doesn't post enough pics of his bananas! http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/whoopass.gif

Regarding the Plumeria...

Bob, I think your ol...I mean mature eyes have deceived you because there was never a bud on it when it arrived!

How long have you been having these hallucinations for?

: o

Bob
08-20-2010, 12:51 PM
HBL..... have you and I ever traded anything? Now I just send things I know you want when they're ready.

Obviously you knocked off yet another bud and don't want to admit it here.....oops did I let something out of the bag?:ha::ha:

The Hollyberry Lady
08-22-2010, 10:36 AM
It's true Bob, we don't really trade and never have...we just give things to each other for free! :ha:

Here's that flowering shrub you sent me. What's it called again? I like the variegated leaves. I've got it in a mostly shaded spot so it's growing kinda slowly...but surely.

Not the best pic, but you get the idea...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/DSCI3350.jpg

Here too is that Plumeria cutting you sent, thriving...

Bob

It's a variegated Kerria Japonica. Perfect in shade and yeah it will be initially slow growing but eventually 6' tall and wide. Covered with yellow flowers in the spring but the coolest thing is that the stems stay bright green all winter after the leaves drop.

Plumeria is looking good!

The Hollyberry Lady
08-22-2010, 01:37 PM
That's it....I forgot the name. I'm glad it grows slow and that it's not just me. I wondered. I've been fertilizing and watering it well, so we'll see. I know yours is just gorgeous, so thanks again Bob.

Yes, the Plumeria is quite happy and even though it looks like it just got plunked into the dirt, it was buried in a hole with some good soil and blood & bonemeal.

The Hollyberry Lady

Too dark and late to take a pic, but...

You'll be happy to know I transplanted my indoor SDC into a much bigger pot tonight, Bob. The roots were thick, gorgeous, and white, when I removed the plant from it's old container. Looks like I repotted it at just the right time.

The one in the garden is still quite small and I'm thinking of bringing it in too for the Winter, but not sure just yet.

Good Lord I just remembered...

you'll be sending me more plants later this week!

So much for that idea...I'll need the room to support all the plants you're sending me! You won't be happy until I have no room whatsoever to grow my flowers over the winter, will you?!

I am kinda looking forward to the stuff you're sending me though and will definitely take care of everything well. :p

I'll take some shots soon...

: )

Bob
09-07-2010, 02:37 PM
Who's holding back on the pics now?:ha: Yup I wont be staisfied till your place is filled up and there's no room to walk in winter....just like mine! I may just add a ffew extra to the shipment:ha::ha::ha:

The Hollyberry Lady

this coming from the stingiest photo releasing procrastinator on the internet?!

I will release some new shots, when I get around to taking them...

Isn't that how you do things? :ha:

Nope, I won't let you pile me up with all your stuff...unless of course it's stuff I really want. I like to grow lots of flowers over Winter though and won't let you stop me! http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/emo2.gif

I could always lie and say some of your plants kicked the bucket! :D

I guess we'll see what you send, but I will show pics of your current stuff soon...

Alright, although it's overcast, drizzly, and not the brightest day for taking peeks, this is my newly transplanted indoor SDC...

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/DSCI3553.jpg

Some of the lower leaves had to go and it now has tree-like appearance, which I adore. :2745:

It's in a much bigger pot than what is was in and I think it will be happy here for awhile.

I'll show my outdoor SDC soon but it really is not that big and I wonder if I made a mistake putting it in my Lily garden and if it's roots feel crowded. I wish now I'd grown it in my other garden.

Don't think I'll be able to bring it in this Fall because I'll be saddled with too many plants from you as it
is, Bob! :ha:

We'll see...

: )

The Hollyberry Lady

Ok then...maybe I'll keep the nicer of the two come frost time.

Yes Bob, that's a heavy stone pot that would have cost a fortune if I hadn't bought it this time of year a few years back, when it was on clearance. Thanks.

The angel is just an ornament that I put there for added interest and it sits so perfectly on the wide rim of the pot.

Well it's now in 20 broken pieces!

It just fell off the sill one morning by accident and smashed to the floor! The SDC is just fine though and I've got it in another pot now.

:goteam: THANK YOU AGAIN, BOB! :goteam:

I finally received your two boxes of plants & cuttings. Thanks so much for the Siam Ruby & Veinte Cohol banana plants. They are just getting established in my sunny living room. I'll show them when they've grown a bit.

Loving the hardy Needle Palm! What a beauty...

Glad they finally made it there Sherry. Yeah the dragon fruit looks upside down and thought I put a this side up tag on it.... then again I packaged it up at the end of a long day and may have screwed up. Those are dwarf key lime cuttings and I no doubt reused a label that I forgot to cross off. I'm sure you'll have everything up to speed in no time and they'll do well for you.
Tough break about that beautiful pot.... (get it?:ha:)

Oh please, it's the least he could have done, after all he's bilked out of me recently! :ha:

Teasing of course. It really was nice of you to send all this great stuff Bob...and the Cleome and Bhut Jolokia seeds also. Thank you again.

I accidently took the dragon fruit cutting out of the bag before reading your label and that's why I was confused about which way to plant it. What's even more strange is that the side you say is the top, has roots growing out of it already! I turned it the right way though, when Tony mentioned it.

Very funny, Ante! :ha:

Anyway the Veinte Cohol has begun to grow and so has the Siam Ruby. I'll show soon...

Guess what, Bob?! :goteam:

My indoor SDC plant has sent up it's first puppy!!! :08:

I've been fertilizing it like crazy and it is doing wonderfully in a new large pot.

Also too, the dragon fruit cutting has rooted and is now growing! :goteam:

Your Siam Ruby is doing fantastic and it has sent up three new leaves since you sent it to me! It even has a bit of a red shade to the leaves, but pale, due to the time of year. I've been fertilizing it steadily and giving it tons of sunshine.

As you know, I'm in between cameras right now and will be setting up my new one soon, so pics will be forthcoming shortly...

: )

Bob
11-17-2010, 04:17 PM
Very cool Sherry, you must be going crazy without that camera... did you have to go to rehab for withdrawel symptoms?:ha:

Puppy?.... pup you mean?!!!!! Call it what you want but you're bound to see many more from that cultivar in no time flat. Mine had 8 or 9 before I cut them off to give away and I only leave the biggest to replace the mother plant when it's done flowering. I think leaving the whole corm helps the next plant produce faster.
Cool that the others are growing. I think you'll find the Siam ruby wont fully color up till next spring when you should plant it in full sun in the groound.

It's looking great HbL!!!!:woohoonaner: You're doing something very right to have it growing that fast indoors at this time of year. All of mine are slow growing or completely dormant right now. If you can keep it going to where it gets 2-3 ft of P-stem before next May it should definitely flower before the end of next years outdoor growing season.:woohoonaner: Well Done!!!

( I'd show a pic of the hollies you sent but , they're covered in snow from yesterdays blizzard)

You're supposed to shake the hollies off, dummy! ;)

Thanks, about the banana plants! They're just huge now. I'll show more shots of some other stuff soon.

The 'sticks on fire' cuttings are doing fantastic and are growing like crazy!

I'm so tired from snow removal I cant shake my.......finger ...never mind the hollies.Tomorrow after some sun hits them I'll get some pics of them finally in the snow at their best. They're full of berries and beautiful..... at least as of Saturday when I last saw them.

I knew you'd do well with the "sticks on fire".................this time around:ha:

Might I remind you that you were the one who didn't even tell me what they were nor how to care for them either! http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/2nd%20album/emo1.gif

Looking forward to seeing your pics...

They're looking great. Funny how they all loose the coloration indoors during winter. Mine looks just the same ....color wise but had really good orangy color when I brought it in.

Yeah I know Bob...same with mine. They had great color when your cuttings first arrived, but it faded once the cool weather started. :(

Something to look forward to, I suppose. Just so happy they're all growing happily. :D

Thanks so much for sharing Bob...again! :ha:
