Is a 5-gallon pot big enough for a 3-4 foot tall dwarf ornico...how tall is too tall for a 5-gallon pot?

I'd put it in a 10 gallon to save yourself some time & help the plant out. :^)

Depends on the roots too. Will they be comfy in 5 gal pot? Room to spread out?

I just planted my Dwarf Ornico in the ground for the summer yesterday. It's p-stem is about 20" tall and it was root bound in a 5 gallon nursery pot. I would deviantly go for a bigger pot. Either that or plant it in the ground for the summer and pot it up in the fall.

You can put any banana in any sized pot, but it depends on what your goals are. If if its just to let it grow for a bit, then a 5gal is fine, but it will only be able to grow to a certain size before it will be limited. At that point it will continue to grow new leaves and can be held like this indefinitely, but it will not get any taller and will need to be moved to a larger container to get taller. A 5gal pot can produce a 3-4ft plant usually. This size pot is not large enough for it to fruit though. To fruit, it should be moved to about a 15-20gal pot, but even this will limit it and it will be smaller than it would be in the groud. Bananas require quite a lot of soil in order to get full sized, the only practical way to achieve maximum growth is to have them in the ground.

R3tic, bless your heart, you've got the typo from hell, I think. I couldn't figure out what was "deviant" about going for a bigger pot, but then I figured out it must have been "definitely" and laughed at all the things that had initially gone through my mind.
Best regards, and thanks for giving me a little laughter,
Lisa
Oh, and I have Dwarf Orinoco in a pot that is about two feet tall and about 26 inches across. It's now about five feet above the dirt level in the pot, and I think it MIGHT flower this year. So five gallons is probably way too small, I think, if you want it to get big and lush enough for fruit.
Best regards,
Lisa
