This tree is 3 years old in Southwestern Mexico and finally did something other than get most of all the pests possible here...

The leaves grow opposite each other on the stem...wher the other mangos here alternate their way along the stem...

I assume the photo is of some flower buds (?)...but again, not like any mango I've ever seen...

any help?

The leaves look like a Pouteria, as does the inflorescence (This genus is South and Central America primarily). :2239:

The skins of unripe Pouteria fruit can be very nauseating. Here is some info on Pouteria and similar species: PTP_2008_06_Sapote (http://www.plantsthatproduce.com/column/PTP_2008_06_Sapote.htm)

I'll be way surprised if it is a Pouteria...have a few here on the ranch and nothing fits...,, but this glop hasn't fallen off the tree yet...maybe more info later...

Good morning jjjankovsky,

There are many different species in the genus Pouteria. The different species are very diverse. :2239:

you may be correct...if there is a red version, it's a match...now, would these mere 5 flowers produce a fruit this year...??

I think Jarred and Tony are correct, it is not Pouteria, and this species of Syzygium is considered an invasive species in South Florida. :2239:
