Has anyone seen this before? It's a first for me. This is a Golden Pillow that has 1 P-stem at the base then branches into two. It would be cool if it produced 2 fruit bunches.

My Hy Brazilian was twin psuedostems, but they split at ground level. When it was small I thought about splitting it but it seemed to be too connected to try that. Pretty weird. Pauly or Scot once wrote that this was common with this variety. Might be also with common with Golden Pillow? Just wondering...

Wow, that would be pretty neat if all the pups did the same thing. lol :^) You could write discovery channel and your banana plant could be on the weird & freaky with all those crazy animals :^)

This can happen in two different ways, and you can tell which one it is by whether both pseudostems are still producing new leaves or not.

If they are both making new leaves, then an axillary bud likely broke early (I don't know why this happens) and started growing up through the leaf sheath of the main one and so now there are two. A similar (but normal) situation occurs when Musella lasiocarpa suckers.

The other thing that could be happening is that the leaves got damaged and stopped growing for some reason, but the plant is still making new leaves so it busted out of the side to form a new pseudostem. This is easy to tell because in this case only one pseudostem will be growing new leaves and the other will begin to decline.

Yeah, I've seen that happen on Musella lasiocarpa like Gabe said above. My guess would be that both of them would bloom if it gets that far. Not entirely sure, though. Wait and see, I guess!

Yeah, $100. Pretty cheap.

I don't believe the part about getting the fruit to come out in any particular direction. I think they grow straight out, and which ever way the plant is leaning, or which ever way the sun hits most will determine the way the fruit goes.

Interesting video.

The person cultivating the bananas I got my suckers from also told me that you can make the bunch come out on a particular side, I think if you face the cut side that way, and I've heard that more than once so there may be some merit to it. Of course; most of us don't have the patience to plant it with the cut side facing a particular way and wait for it to flower and see lol, but it's an interesting theory :)
