I was wondering what those little store bought bananas are? I have seen some that are labeled Manzano and Chiquita. Also, how would they compare to Raja Puri in taste? Thanks
Bo

Some could be 'Manzano' but most I've seen are labeled as such. I think usually the Chiquitas are probably either 'Nino' or possibly 'Oritos' but I think 'Oritos' are skinnier. Check Chiquitas website...I think they tell what kind they are.

Those store bought Manzano's are a bad representation of the real thing. Probably because they are picked green and gassed. A home grown one, vine ripened, is something to be cherished! I hate to see them in the stores, cause I know after people try them, they get the wrong idea what a Manzano tastes like.

In my experience, most of the nanas apart from Dwarf Cavendish (and Williams I assume) are only at their best when ripened on the plant and only eaten when fully ripe and starting to be slightly soft. This is why they are rarely seen in stores, and when they are - they are disappointing.

My Tall Brazilian...Manzanos look like this:
These sat on the tree for 6 months ... unlike the store purchased ones...quick pick and gas.
And a treat to be charished!

So sweet! Everyone on the block of my neighborhood and at work enjoyed them! The plants put out over 150 nanners each.

I love the little bananas. I usually by the chiquita ones and they are very sweet but not too sweet. Im always surprised when people have never seen anything like it! Wait until they find out some bananas have different colors too!
Good luck!
