Don't want to order banana fuel due to the high shipping costs, was wondering what would be the best fertilizer from Lowes:
1)Scotts Citrus Avocado & Mango Continuous Release Plant Food
2)Espoma Citrus-Tone
or anyother I haven't seen that would be appropriate for an ornamental banana?
Thanks!

Miracle grow, 10-10-10, 12-12-12, horse manure, cow manure, anything with nitrogen in it! They could care less just as long as they get plenty of nitrogen as the weather gets warmer, they need more, if it's still very cool, start with a small dose.

I use the miracle gro for Azalea Camellia Rhododendron. I got it at Lowe's for around $5. It has a content of 30-10-10. It has lots of Nitrogen and works great.

The lowest price per net pound of Citrus fertilizer you can buy. For example:
Brand A: 3-lb jar of 8-4-8 for $8.
Brand B: 1.5-lb jar of 20-10-15 for $9.
The Nitrogen in Brand A costs $8 / (3-lb x 0.08) = $33.33 per pound.
The Nitrogen in Brand B costs $9 / (1.5-lb x 0.20) = $30 per pound.
Brand B is a better buy.

Clare,
I hear you on the shipping costs on the nana fuel. I used it last year with crazy results, I'm ordering again even if it seems high. You could always order enough for two years.

Nate,
The nana fuel I used last year came from somewhere in Florida, the name of the place was called tropical delights if I remember correctly. I really can't remember what the numbers where, except I do remember the P was 30 and it was higher then the N which was 15 or 20.
My nanas are doing great! All of them are alive from pups but none of the nine momma plants came back. I'm not worried they'll still be huge. I'll post pictures soon. I'll be away for a week or so so after that sometime.
Hope all is well with you.

I think I ordered enough for 3 or 4 years :^) Unless I sell some to my neighbors at my total cost which cheaper than going to the store around here. :^)
