My local Food City just tosses old bananas into large boxes next to the shelves, which they just throw away, and I was considering taking it off their hands. Is it a good idea to bury pounds of whole bananas next to banana plants to provide potassium, or will it have adverse affects on the soil?
The reason I ask this is because my Goldfinger made it's first flower and I heard here (http://www.phoenixtropicals.com/banana.html) it's not a good idea to chemically fertilize bananas in Phoenix during flowering because of high soil salinity. Up until now I've been using Espoma Citrus Fertilizer.
