I had a customer that stopped in yesterday with his son. He reported that his 4 year old basjoo is up and kicking already. He said he cut it down to 1 foot tall and protected it with bags of leaves. It is already pushing growth about 6 inches tall right out of the center of last year's stalk where he cut it off. He showed me a picture on his phone.
I haven't checked mine yet, I'm a bad banana mommy! It's supposed to cool off later on this week again anyway.

That's great news for zone 5!!! But then, we did have a mild winter cuz of Ell Nino. I just read where Stumpy (in Tennessee) lost a few nanas after heavy mulching & covering them. Some people in S.E. had quite a loss from frost & rain.

Everything I had outside was reduced to ground level. I used chicked wire and filled it with cyprus mulch and then covered it with a tarp. Only the nana's in the garage and the 2 I took inside are growing now. Even the Siam Ruby that was inside took a beating. I lost about half of its P-Stems to rot.
