my little local nursery has a couple of ensets growing good in about 2 gallon pots. Do you all think 60$ is worth it? I would say leaf tip it might be 2 maybe 3 feet. No where near a starter for sure. If you care to look about the same size as the first picture in the wiki, maybe a ittle larger.
Just want to get a feel to what these go for.

I think that is too high. I bought a really good size one in November for less than $20. Here are a couple off eBay:
Ensete Maurelli - Red Abyssinian - Hardy Banana Plant - eBay (item 330418255603 end time Apr-03-10 16:39:15 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/Ensete-Maurelli-Red-Abyssinian-Hardy-Banana-Plant_W0QQitemZ330418255603QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0 ?hash=item4cee7676f3)
Ensete Maurellii - Banana Canna Colocasia Musa - eBay (item 360245743289 end time Apr-20-10 13:54:39 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/Ensete-Maurellii-Banana-Canna-Colocasia-Musa_W0QQitemZ360245743289QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0? hash=item53e051ceb9)

Thanks for the feedback. I figured it was crazy high.
Thanks for the pics Greg, looks just about the same size.
I will not be buying it then....(most likely)
It's a shame because this is one of the only banana selling places I know of. I am going to have to shop around more. It's hard saying no when I find one in person. =]

If you cant find any locally i would suggest getting one from Sandy0225. Here is her ad:
[Sale] Plant some fun this year! It's time to prebook orders for spring... - Bananas.org (http://www.bananas.org/classifieds/viewad-522.html)
I got 2 bananas and a big ensete off of her for almost half of what those other people wanted and it was shipped right to my door in 2 days. Great deal

It might be nice & convenient that the plant is so close, but I concur with the others who state the price isn't worth it, and then tack on the tax.. Your way better off waiting on a deal this early in the season. Shop around and pay for shipping you'll still be half the price of the local place w/o tax. That's my lil 2 cents... Good Luck & Happy Hunting :^)

First of all, thanks Nate for the endorsement!
My current ensetes are "too big" for the price right now. They are some that I got last fall and they're about 2 feet tall after I cut them back some. They are getting too hard to take care of (need too much watering!) so I want to sell them out so I can get some new "baby" ones that are easy again!
I can get them in the 38" box if you live close by without much trimming, but if you live far away, the postage on that sized box is too high. So they'd need to be trimmed more to make it economical. I did send 8 of them in the large flat rate box, they have to be trimmed way way down to 12" stubs with roots, but that box only costs like $15.oo to mail so that's the way to go if you need several. They grow back real fast!
Or you can come and get them in person and I'll pot them up into a bigger pot and you can pay $60 for them. Wow I'd love to be getting $60.00 for them, that would be great!!!!I can't see that happening around here with this economy anytime though!

Sandy at Northern Tropics is the place to go. I have gotten several plants from her and always been well satisfied. They are healthy and ready to grow!!
Cut back is the way to go. In one month you will have a much bigger plant than if you buy a smaller plant. The smaller plant may put out the same number of leaves but the leaves on the bigger cut back plant will be larger. Thus giving more size quick.

One thing you must keep in mind when buying plants it that price is regional!! What I mean is this, when I visit Naples/Ft. Myers Florida I can buy, (and did) bougainvillea in 2 gallon pots for $5. Those some Bougainvillea here where I live I can sell for $25-$35 easily. I have a friend in South Florida who beggs to bring a truckload of plants up here to sell because he can get several times more for them here than there. I have two ensente murelie that a friend bought for me when he visited sandy last summer. When I received then they were in 4" pot and were 2-3 feet tall. **Sandy, I have no idea how you get so much banana in so little pot space. I would love to know your method, I have a guess that you keep chopping the top back and maintain the root structure.** I transplanted them into 3gallon pots and maintained them all winter. They used very little water and look great right now. If you can afford the shipping Sandy is the way to go!

Decided to stop back by this nursery today to see whats good.
They had Zebrina's for $50 a Dwarf Giant for $50 ensets still $60
I told the 'tropical' lady their prices are crazy. She told me their plants come from Monriva in Georgia, as if that justifies the price(or as if I should care).
Heading to other side of the nursery where they keep their preans.
Basjoo were not in yet, another lady informed me they were $90 for 5 gallons my jaw must have hit the floor. I asked $90, she responded saying its a pre-annual. I said no thanks and left.
I will never visit that place again. Makes me sick.
The sad thing is they are going to sell all these plants due to the area they are located.

Saw a five gallon ensete V murellie in Cedar Rapids for $79 today. Also had a 8' basjoo that must have had a 9-10" base for $139. Way to expensive to buy, but fun to look at.
I've had great luck with Sandy and Jimmmy that sell on the b.org.
