I recently replaced the black cartridge on my printer. I then went to scan, and mke copies of the insurance cards for my cars. (HP Photosmart P1000 printer & HP Scanjet 4890 scanner) I placed the black printed cards in the scanner, and the copies came out printed green. If I highlight, and print a selection from a website, it comes out green. However the http address at the bottom of the page is black like it is supposed to be. If I highlight and print a selection from most e-mails, they usually come out black, like they're supposed to be, however I had one where the from, to , subject, etc., came out black but the text was green. It seems when I print a selection from this, and other forums, they come out black, like they should. Any clues? Thank you very much.

I'd call the agent and talk to them about your issue. Maybe the green makes it authentic? You never know but there is a reason for it being green, and not your printer if other stuff comes out black. It's the font on the page. Good Luck with that :^)

No, it's not supposed to come out green for authenticity, or anything. I have made copies at every renewal, twice a year, for several years now, and it's always come out black. Also there are several other things besides the insurance cards, though not all, that come out green. Some come out black like they're supposed to; others come out green. They all are black, when I look at them on the monitor.

That is weird John. Maybe it's printing in color & you are low on color ink (?) If I want to print something in just black & push 'black', the whole page in completely black! A waste of ink. So I click on 'color' & it prints in black. This happens if the page I print is only in black. Go figure.

In case anyone is interested, the problem is solved. I guess I just was not paying close enough attention. Apparently, if you just click on "Print", the machine uses a combination of colored and black ink to create a black letter. I bought a combo pak of black and tricolor cartridges but, thinking only the black was out, replaced only that one. I tried to make sure it would print in black by, when what I think is called the print dialog box came up, clicking on "Preferences" and then clicking on "Print in Grayscale".

I didn't realize at the time, that I had to take it one step further. When I put the checkmark in "Grayscale", the dots under the check lit up. The default setting is, "High Quality", and I should have clicked on, "Black Only".

Apparently the red ink, in the color cartridge, also out, leaving blue and yellow, which made green and, combined with some black, made dark green.

I have now replaced the color cartridge, along with the black, and the problem is taken care of.
