My Dwarf Cavendish is doing well and growing. I have a question about feeding. I have some Bat Guano thats 11-4-1. I will get some other stuff soon but so far this is working well. But should I feed the bat guano once a week?

That all depends on your application. If you put a weeks worth out then you can do it every week, but if you put a months worth out... you get the drift :^)

I'm about to go on vacation for 2 wks. I have to figure out how to feed Mrs. peel and my pineapple. So what would be two weeks worth? I'm very new at this. Thanks.

If you left for two weeks without fertilizing, there would be no harm done.

Any tips on how to leave the Dwarf Cavendish in a container for the 2 wks without killing it?

Put a half dozen of those glass self watering jobbies filled up in the soil and go on vacation :^) It might be thirsty when you get home but should be alive unless you have a neighbor that can water it?

I thought you could only get those off the t.v. Where else can you get them?

Walmart might even have them...I've seen them there before. I'm still a bit skeptical about those things, but let me know how they work!

As far as the fertilizer thing goes, it doesn't really have to be complicated. I fertilize whenever it seems like it's been a while. I just kinda dump a bunch of the soil and when it sorta disappears mostly, I do it again. I have no schedule and my plants do great. It's not like if you don't fertilize for a while the plant dies....it just won't grow as quickly, that's all (or if it gets too far it might start showing signs of a nutrient deficiency).

I was thinking that it might work for my pineapple plant but I think for the Dwarf Cavendish I may just put the bucket I have it in with holes into a bucket with water. It'll stay wet for for at least a week and then can soak up when it needs it and cover around the roots with saran wrap. It'll keep it warm and tropical.

A plastic gallon jug with a pin hole in it will drip for a number of days.

Great ideal!!!

Just be careful with the syran wrap idea....it can keep it too moist for too long and promote rot. There's a delicate balance between moist and 'too wet.'

Okay. I can loosely wrap it. My pineapple seems to enjoy the loosely wraping of the saran. I usually put a blanket around the banana because it still gets cold so maybe not tight but loose for air and moisture to evaporate. Thanks.

Patrice, your risking more harm than good with saran wrap! it would be better if your plant were under watered for a week rather than be over humidified for two it seems to me., If you're able to keep some jugs or other self watering aids active for the first week you're gone ... week two shouldn't be an issue. Seems to me under the worst conditions th saran wrap migh cause rot which would be much harder to deal with in the long run than the underatering.
