OK, so you guys can have a good chuckle!
I got tired of shoveling around through my compost pile, but didn't want to give up my compost. So, I have been hankering for a twirling compost barrel. I didn't know how to make one from scratch like some of you talented guys have done, so I bought one.
BUT, I did have to assemble the dang thing! By the time I got to bed last night my hands were so sore and this morning I have blisters. I know, I know where is the fiddle? My DH could have probably had this together in .... let's say 45 minutes or so. This was 4 HOURS for me last night and I'm not finished YET!!!! UGH! Can't believe that? There is sunlight on the box and carpet - in the last picture you can see the bottom of the living room windows with blackness! HA!

I hope I can get this thing out my door when I am done! :ha:

YOU GO GIRL! Looks like it's about all together. I got a closet organizer w/ about a million peices & when the directions are translated from Chinese, it is sometimes impossible to understand.

I'm sure after the effort put forth to assemble it, you'll truly cherish not having to dig out of the pile from now on. Hope all the pieces are there.. :^)

Thanks Patty and Migael!
Yeah, well........After another 4 hours today it is almost complete. The reason for it not to be complete? Because a part, HH spacer, is supposed to have holes in it so a bolt can go through it - it doesn't!!! :( So I will be taking that piece and the instruction book with me tomorrow to see if I can get another or someone can drill it for me, we'll see. After all this I will NOT be returning it that's for sure.

Let us know how it works. I have been checking them out as a solution to keeping my dog and a resident fox from getting all of the good stuff from the pile.

Dave you think you have slim pickens. I have a pig. I wish I had a pile :^)
The only thing I get out of the deal is pooh & more pooh. :^)
Hi JaNan.... I'm just about in tears imagining you putting this together for 4 hours! ...and the comment about getting it out the door:ha::ha::ha:
You're probably too young to remember the " little rascals" but it was a comedy from the 1930s and in one episode the " gang" built a fire engine out of spare parts scavenged from the neighborhood in their clubhouse and then had to take out a wall to get it out!!.... I'm picturing you and the composter as I type.
Bet your "DH" could have done it in 15 minutes!:ha::ha::ha:

Glad you came through the process! I know the instructions on those things can sometimes be a LOT more complicated than it should be. Sometimes I just kinda look at them to get the pieces in the right place and then figure it out on my own. Then again, they usually have like 8 lengths of screws or something that lends itself to massive confusion which leads to frustration and then anger. Put bolt T in slot 22 to connect shaft L with shaft R4. Sound familiar? :ha:
Well, hope it fit out your door and hope you get that piece machined or replaced. That's pretty crappy it didn't come with the hole in it like it was supposed to....one extra pain in the butt step, eh?
PS...I like your rug! It really sets the MOOOOOOD LOL.

I took the piece HH back and they opened up a new box and took the piece out of it and gave it to me. OK it's done, complete, and outside!!!!! :woohoonaner:(I did have to remove the barrel and had to slant the frame around the doorway to get it out. I didn't have to take the wall out BOB! :ha: HA! HA!) Now I just have decide exactly where I want it to be and to fill it up.
Yes, Doc that is exactly what the directions were like! Not fun! I was following the instructions step by step and I was pulling my hair out by the time I was finally finished.
Bob the 30's were before my time but I do remember seeing "Our Gang" which I thought were the "Little Rascals" - it could have be reruns I guess. Spanky, Darla, Buckwheat, Alfalfa and the others. Glad you got a chuckle! I figured someone would enjoy the story!
Dave I will let everyone know how it works for me. I know it will keep the local wild life out of my pile now. I think that aspect alone will make it worth the money spent.

How is your composter working out?

It's doing is job. I filled it about 7/8 full with a mixture of leaves, horse poop, kitchen vegetable waste (eggshells, banana peels, apple cores, etc.) and some bottom and middle layer of the original compost pile. to "activate" it. :) Oh, and added a few earthworms to the mix. I give it a twirl every day when I go out to feed the horses. It has now compacted down to about half full, so I would say that is good progress. I do still have the original compost pile though as I am making more to put into the composter. Go figure! :ha:
