Has anyone ordered bananas are any plant from Plant Delight Nursery ? The website is plantsdelights.com. I tried looking them up on davesgarden.com watchdog list and there not listed. I want a orinoco banana plant. It seems like most plants I buy on line are real small. And they donot make it.Plants delight seem like high prices and they have a minimum order and the shipping is high but if they have very nice plants I would not mind paying the price. Any feedback would be great.
Thanks

I've ordered a couple things- Tropicanna Canna, Giant Calla Lily, and someone else at work ordered a couple things. They have prices that are a little high- and are a little liberal with their Zone ratings, but I've been quite happy with how much the calla and canna grew in just a couple months that before it got cold. Depending on what you're looking for though, you might find cheaper here on the ORG. Also surprised you couldn't find it at DG:

Greg I'd just call them and see what is the plant height (18") they are shipping, and if it's not to your taste seek other means. Right :^) That is a decent size compared to others.

I ordered a 'Siam Ruby' from them a couple of years ago. No issues and I do not recall there being a minimum order.

I have never had a negative experience with PDN. The plants are healthy although the prices are high. The selection is amazing.

I got to attend a lecture by Tony Avent of PDN a few weeks back and it was really good. He's a funny guy and a good speaker.

Thanks I typed it in as Plants Delights Nursery,Inc. on Daves garden.com thats why it did not come up. Thanks allot for the link but some very nice person on the org is passing a plant to me just for shipping. Which of course I will surely do right by that great deed. This place is to much. In a very good way of course.
Thanks
Greg

I've ordered from them before. Their plants were healthy & packed well to protect them during shipment. Like most mail order nurserys, the plants weren't large, but grew great once planted. Customer service was really good before and after the sale. I had a question about one of my plants after I recieved my order, and Tony himself answered my email. He said to let him know if I had any more problems or questoins.

BigDog and I went to Raleigh area last spring and had the great opportunity to visit with Tony Avent in his gardens!!! He was a great host and took quite a bit of time out of his day to walk with us and discuss many of his plants, many of which are not even on the market. This was a very rare chance I throughly enjoyed and had a blast! He is very personable and knows his stuff!!!! Subscribe to their catalog and simply read it for the humor alone, not to mention the great information inside.

Greg,

Everything said here is true about PDN, including things being a little pricey. Orinoco is common enough, you can't find that from someone here? Seems like you'd get a better plant cheaper from our membership. Heck, I've shared lots of plants for free. I don't have Orinoco because it is so common around here. If you're not in a big hurry a can probably find you one.

I've not purchased bananas from them, but I've got a great hibiscus that I ordered from them a couple of years ago. They were a pleasure to deal with and the plant was in very good shape.

Their travel stories are a good read. They frequently mention seeing wild bananas on their plant/seed collecting trips, too bad they haven't introduced more zone 7 Musa.

I love reading Tony's catalog. His politics are obviously to the right of mine, but who cares? It's a great read; one I look forward to twice a year.

I agree, Kyle...the travel/plant explorations stories are good. Tony was nice enough to autograph my catalog when I went to hear him speak last month. A cool keepsake!
