Hi guys,
Does anyone know or heard of a banana plant that will produce fruits twice. I'm not referring to the Mahoi variety but this is a different one,i've heard that it's growing in Malaysia and one of my friend has grown it and it really does produce fruits twice before dying.
Thanx for your help!

No I can't say that I have, but it sounds interesting if true. :^)

I know that Jarred had one that was a grand nain that fruited with 2 stalks , not sure if this was miss labled , but that's what he thought. Hard to say.

So do you mean that it has two racemes that come out at once like double mahoi? Or that it fruits once, then sends out a new bunch after that? Pretty sure the latter does not happen (at least that I've ever heard of). As far as I've ever read, bananas are monocarpic, meaning each 'plant' will fruit once, then die back to the roots. That same corm can fruit numerous times, but as far as the plant itself fruiting twice, the only one I've heard of is Mahoi.

Yes..that's what i meant. It fruits once and then fruits again without dying off.I know this is unbelieveable but my friend said, back in 1992 a man from the nearby village came with full of banana suckers in his bag.
Then,he told about the variety he found growing in the villages that can fruit twice. My friend bought it and after a few years,it fruited but instead of cutting down the tree,he waited to see if it can really produce the second bunch, amazingly it did.
But he had to move to a new house so the trees were left behind without even taking a corm/sucker.After a couple of years passed,he went back to check if the tree is still there, but it was gone.
We both are now searching for this banana variety so hope we will find one.
Wish us luck!
