Found this banana at a fellow plant collector's home. He had no ID on it.

Mitchel, That was my assessment, from the few pix I had seen previously. Definitely doesn't look like the Ele Ele I had, or the one I have now, but I was never convinced that either of mine was the real deal as they had no black in them, at all, as I had expected. Even my Goldfinger had more coloration.

Ya Ele'ele is a reasonable guess, of course a bunch photo would help tons. The color is variable depending on conditions and variety (there are at least 2 forms of Ele'ele), I've seen them pretty much green with tints of reddish-purple all the way to full deep black.
Here are some photos of a specimen with similar coloration to the unknown plant above.

Gabe, Thanx. I don't beliebe that they have fruited, yet, though two are quite tall. This was the first time I had seen a banana with coloration like this, which I uderstood to be typical of Ele Ele. What should the bananas look like? Anything distinctive?

Looking back at those old photos from the beginning of the thread, I think they are the black M. balbisiana, not 'Ele'ele.

That would mean seeded fruit if and when, right?

The Ele Ele's I have seen are only black at the top of the pseudo-stem and the base of new leaves. The 2nd & 4th pictures has significant black at the base of the pseudo-stem.

Awesome picture Chris!!!
I see your Ele Ele has persistent male flowers while the one in Gabe's picture doesn't. At what height does yours flowers?
