Hi everyone, my name is Nick, I am a Master Gardner in Florida, and consider Bananas my forte, I have strived to learn everything I can about growing them here, however it remains a challenge during the colder months. Slowly but surely I have fine tuned my protection methods, and this Winter can finally say that I have succeeded in protecting the smaller varieties down to 26 degrees!..needless to say, I am very happy about it...LOL...glad to be here!:)

Hello Nick (You've been here longer than me so no Welcomes.. lol)
I know what you mean.. Protection is a good thing :^) I'm still fine tuning, but I have lil more cold to deal with :^)
One of these days I'll figure out how to start a thread.. I bet I take longer than you did?! :^)

Welcome aboard, Nick!

Please consider writing for our Magazine - we're looking for overwintering articles from all over the world, and if you can keep your bananas alive at 26 F we definitely need your input.

I have Saba, Dwarf Cavandish, Raja Puri, Apple and Ice Cream, but will be weaning myself off the taller varieties and keying in on the smaller ones (8 feet and below), because I am done with the heartache of seeing them melt every Winter, I feel I have finally accomplished protection methods for the smaller ones,no matter what mother nature throws at me next January.

I am going to stop growing all those except Zan Moreno and Mahoi (dwarf cavendishes). I am really surprised by Pisang Raja, Hua Moa, Popoulu, and Ele Ele and SH 3640. :2239:
