I have a banana fruit and I'd like to identify the plant it came from. It's short and fat, about 4-5 inches long, about 2 inches wide, and even through fat it has three distinct sides. I'll try to post a photo but the fruit is deteriorating in my fridge and may not show as well as it should.

Can someone give me a list of varieties with short fat fruit, or a web site that has photos of the fruit.

That description fits a huge number of varieties. A photo would help, also where its from and how you acquired it will help (this will greatly narrow down the possibilities). Take the best photo you can of it and put it here and we may be able to help ID it if you also provide the info above.

Also, it's best not to store bananas in the fridge for extended periods of time - they go off faster that way.

I've uploaded two photos of the unidentified fat banana to my image gallery. I'm not sure how to direct anyone there, but it's under jbclem.

The banana was overripe when it was given to me so storing in the fridge probably didn't make much difference. The only information I have is that it's from a tall banana plant in Manhattan Beach, Ca. and produces fruit all year round. Manhattan Beach is in the Santa Monica Bay, at Los Angeles. So not much heat for ripening this time of year.
