what is the plant in the picture on the bottom? Is that a type of bamboo?

Yes it's bamboo
It is the specie Phyllostachys nigra 'Henonis'

Very nice exemplar(s). Good gardening skills. Seeing this pic I too might start growing some interesting, semi tall bamboo, up to 3,5m (12 feet). Is there any interesting bamboo you could advise me? Zone 7b/8a. Thanks.

Thanks, but this bamboo is cutted on 4m (13 feet) heigt for replanting and transport, in the garden where he grow , he was 9m (29 feet) heigt. So this specie isn 't a semi tall bamboo.

There are many species semi tal bamboo: clumping (Fargesia, Chusquea)and running species(Phyllostachys, sasa, pseudosasa,...)
Some species running verry hard and deep, others just a little bit or not so deep.

I sure hope all your plants survive! That poncirus Trifoliata should be OK, -- they are pretty hardy.
