Sure thing, I'll send a large file when I get a second, but in talking to Gabe we have come to the conclusion that they are not Misi Luki, but most likely Namwah. The plants are missing some key identifiers of Mysore.

Is that the same plant from which you gave me the pup that I won?
Gabe is pretty sharp on nanas!!

What are they?

What are they?
They have no maroon color on the leaf bottoms or on the young fruit, and the bracts hang on too long. Also the fruits are very waxy.
This is the color they should be.

Yes, and it's my favorite fancy naner! :)
The color isn't always there and seems to fade as they grow, but is a pretty plant it's whole life.

Have you noticed any maroonish iridescent color on the leaf bottoms when they are young like my pics above?

Many of the plantlets I get from agristarts have reddish color pseudostems, even some like Macklayi and Hua Moa, that do not normally display this characteristic. I think it may be a response to the hormone regimen they grow them with. They perform well for me so.... Good Job Agri-starts!

None. I was wondering if yours was the same as this pic?

Right now my PK looks similar to your ML except the pseudostems on mine are darker. I think they get more color when it's warmer and they are growing faster.

Misi Luki - An improved ladies finger type from Samoa, sold by Landsendt Nursery as a good banana for Auckland. Landsendt have a small commercial plantation of this cultivar. Reliable. Recommended. AAB.
Mysore/'Red Misi Luki' - India's main commercial banana, a medium size plant with moderately attractive purply-pinkish blushed stems. Good flavor in a favorable site, with a nice sugar acid balance. This banana demands the very warmest site if it is to fruit and have good quality. Not recommended, except for the most favorable warm and protected conditions. AAB.

Mitchel,
So if I understand correctly, 1) my Misi Luki isn't a Misi Luki (not even a hint or red on mine); 2) you are getting "out of" tall bananas; 3) My "Misi Luki" whihch seems like it is the same as yours, has 4 bunches of nice fruit hanging, and went through our 60+ mph windstorm a couple months back without even a scratch, 4) yours made a really nice bunch of bananas (typical of our "Misi Lukis") - So maybe you should reconsider and keep this one, even though it is tall. My 2 cents.

1. Nope, no red at all. Probably Namwah according to Gabe.
2. True, as time permits, fei's are exempt though. ;)
3. Awesome!
4. True, It's not very tall which I like and it grows nice fruit bunches, I just don't care for the texture. They are a bit rubbery for me, but I am going to give them a few more days of ripening, then taste them again before making the final call.

The red only shows on new leaves and fades quickly on mine.

Mitchel,
They should be fully yellow, or beyond, becoming a bit paler and duller. Then they are very dense, but texture should be smooth, moist, and creamy. Yes, dense and creamy. The peels will darken because of handling, often within 60 minutes, if they were handled when fully ripe. The bananas are not affected by this darkening, only the peel, and will still be good for s few days.

I'm usually not a fan of overly ripe bananas but I'll give it a try. I ate one today that was totally yellow and it was not quite as rubbery, but it did have an odd flavor to it that I can't quite place. A little astringent I guess, which makes sense seeing how you say they need to be really ripe to eat. A few more days ought to help.

Hey Momo, here's the mockup of your cover for this volume. For all the rest of you, this is the new cover format; I prefer it, since it's far less cluttered than the old one, and allows the beauty of the cover photos to really shine.

Well the fruits are almost black and I'm still not digging the flavor or texture. They have both improved but it still has an astringent taste even though they are sugary sweet. I'm just not a fan. I wish there was a way to know for sure if you like a banana before planting. When you have such a small growing area 2 years is a long time to spend on something just to rip it back out. Well I'm really happy my wife insisted I grow another stand of the Pisang Klotek and I think I'm going to put myself in the market for a Dwarf Brazilian because I already know I like the fruits. Anyone have a rock solid 100% for sure source of DB?

I have had what one person called Golfinger and it was good so I grew some and they are the Dwarf Cavendish that I've been too lazy to remove. You should ask Gabe about Goldfinger sometime, he gave us a lecture about the name Goldfinger in the chat one night. I'll let him explain it to you so I don't botch his words.

So the second bunch from this Namwah stand has much better flavor, why I don't know. The texture is still not my favorite but the flavor is very nice. Patty will have a chance to try them hopefully today.

It typically takes between 4-6 months once the first fruit appears before they can be harvested, depending upon which cultivar one is growing.

Here in So Cal it takes 6-7 months from bloom to ripe fruit.

I'll have to go back and check when my bananas bloomed. I am pretty sure I've got some that have taken 8 months or more.
