I can't seem to find it now, but a little while back someone had reported a plant that was brought indoors to be shooting up a leaf that was brown and appeared to be dead.

Debate about whether dead leaves can "shoot" aside ;-).... has anyone encountered this and did it resolve itself?

Any suggestions?

Plant in question is under grow lights and doing okay otherwise. Looking rather spindly. The new leaf apears to be slowly rising... just the part that is visible appears to be turning brown and drying up.

I haven't been overwatering. Only when the soil is quite dry. In comparison, the other basjoo next to it is still going great guns.

Either lack of sun, of to much water or temperature to cool? Or combination of two or more :^)

I have the same problem with a Superdwarf Hi-Color Mini:

I think I may have left it outside too long (leaves were shrivelling a bit) but I brought it in for the winter a couple of months ago.

It was rather viciously attacked by spider mites. I cleared these (I think) but the stuff I used to clear them burnt the leaves a bit.

The plant is looking in a sorry state and the cigar leaf is brown. It is currently under a CFL light.

To add a complication, this is a hydro banana so it may be getting too much or too little water at the moment (I suspect too much so will try watering it less).

The room it is in also has a cold floor and so I have just added at fish tank heater at 26C.

Does anyone have any advice?

Mine has gotten no better. Plus which, the remaining leaves are drying out and curling brown. The p-stem is still nice and green though. No mites.

I'm thinking that I'm going to let the soil dry out and then put it in a dark corner of my home against an outside wall that is quite chilly (no basement) , to try forcing it dormant and wait until spring when I can plant it outside and hopefully it'll come back.

Let me know how that goes. After a read-around of this forum, I'm probably going to go the other way.

My plan is to inspect the roots for rot. If I can see rot, to cut back to living tissue, paint with rooting hormone and put in a heated aero-propagator I have to try and bring it back to life.
