My lovely wife managed to wrangle me a new Nikon D90 for x-mas! It came with a 55-105mm lens and seeing how I shoot a lot of dog sports I searched and found a 75-300mm Nikkor lens on Craigslist for cheap! Here is one of my first test shots. The top of the pole is 50 feet and I was standing about 25 feet away from it with the lens at 300mm, hand held in early morning light. Shutter priority set at 400 with -0.7 exposure compensation. Can't wait to try it this weekend on some agility dogs! :drum:

I had a feeling you might like that! :ha: What do think about that big chunk of wood missing from the cross support? Is that an issue that I should call the power company about? This pole is about 4 feet from the rear corner of my garage.

There is some truth to that with Cannon having white lenses and Nikon having black lenses! :0520:

I think we should have a contest to guess the age of that pole! ;) I'll guess with 1953! There should be a tag on it with the year, though maybe SCE doesn't do that. :2689:

I would guess pre 1929 since that's when our house was built. It sits between the houses on two streets. Basically it sits at the joining corner of 4 properties(4 backyards) Technically they own a 3 foot easeway between the properties, but if they had to replace the pole I'm not sure how they would get to it. Maybe a giant crane parked on the street reaching over the homes?

On the "other" side, you could go up to 1200mm f/5.6 if you've got the money! :D
They rarely come up for sale, but there is one available! Used Canon | Super Telephoto 1200mm f/5.6L EF USM | 2527A001 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800622963-USE/Canon_2527A001_Super_Telephoto_1200mm_f_5_6L.html)

I think there are only about 10 of those babies in existence and Sports Illustrated owned 2 of them, I believe.

Nice pic Mitchel. I'd have to go to school to learn how to use that camera LOL
Now you got me curious to see the pole from a distance.

Hey, I've seen that but would never buy a lens I couldn't carry and mount on a tripod! :ha:

That's some crazy stuff right there!

I shot a couple real short vieos just to see how it worked. Looks good but you can't use AF so it's worthless for anything that moves. Another negative is the lack of stereo. But it will get me by when I really want to video something. I'm going to try shooting some video this weekend at agility class as a test to see if it's even worth trying at a trial.
