I just brought my musa basjoo inside a couple days ago since it's getting frost damage and I have it at room temperature, close to a 70=350watt flourescent bulb. I plant on watering it only when it looks completely dry, or if the plant appears to be water stressed. Will this plant grow at all in these conditions?

Heres the picture

Hi Steve,

I can't say for sure as I have no idea how much light those are putting out but you'll know in fairly short order. It probably will help!

The natural light in the room my basjoo were in was not enough for them, but fine for the bamboo I have in there.

I ended up sticking both my basjoos under a 4,000 lumen 6400K florescent light and they're both doing great. One is growing like crazy. The other was sickly from underlighting and/or underwatering and making a comeback.

Good luck!

My flourescent light puts out 3500 lumens at 5500K and the banana is placed within 2ft of the actual bulb so I hope it's enough. I looked inside the center and the forming leaf in there looks brown and dead, but I'm hoping it has the ability to regenerate another one. The bamboo in the background is probably fine even without the light, but I'm hoping my banana plant makes a comeback in the next couple weeks.

I have floresant grow lights hanging from my ceiling in my basement. I set them on timers so they come on at 6am and turn off at 8pm everyday. I read that since the light is weaker than natural sun light to have them on for 14 hours a day. I have been doing this for 2 years now and it seems to work well.

Going on the perfect way dude. Lights for 14 hours a day is just ok and there is no problem at all here. Actual it is essential for the plants. The plants require the light for the whole day and we provide them only for the 14 hours a day.
