What is the difference between a Musella Lasiocarpa "Golden Lotus" and a musella lasiocarpa "dwarf chinese banana" or are they the same? The flowers seem to be different on both bananas, and does one make seeds and the other dosent?...Which one is more cold hardy.

As far as I'm aware a golden lotus is a is a different plant.musella lasiocarpa is the only species in the musella group. The information is in the banana book [bananas you can grow]

The old slang term for the Musella lasiocarpa was Chinese Yellow or Golden Lotus. That's why we should all use only the scientific nomenclature.

Ok so they are the same... Then why on some plants the flower pedals real thin and pointy (like this picture: http://www.rootsexotics.com/images/MUSELLA%20lasiocarpa%202.jpg) and others real fat (like this picture: http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/htop_1115397420_687.jpg)

Hi Blake, the dave's garden link came up as unauthorized but the differences are likely due to them being grown in different climates or having been grown under different cultural practices.

Also usually they look different at different stages, the young bud looks different than one that has been going for awhile, and these plants can bloom continuously for over a year.

Yeah, they are the same species. They can vary a little based on growing conditions. They are an ornamental species and produce seeded fruit. More information can be found on the wiki page (http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Musella_Lasiocarpa).
