That Football Club in your Avatar, isn't that the club with the best
goalkeeper of the world?
Okay, Musa Basjoo, it always comes back with some mulch, even after the
bad winter we had last year.

I'm with Ron, on this one... Musa basjoo because of its hardiness. Not the prettiest banana, but definitely the most reliable for me so far.

Gros Michel original strain. It performs well for me no matter where I have to live.

I'm going to say DC or Gran Nain.. I'm flippin' for it... If I want color and only can have one banana it's going to produce. I can plant flowers or something for color :^) DC since I'll have a ton of banana's eventually since it pups like crazy lol

Musa velutina. It produces fruit each year and ripens by fall. You can't beat the ornamental aspects of the plant.

Im going with my dwarf cavendish. It makes alot of babies, and is one of the only fruiting bananas that taste great and wont grow out of a large pot.

I guess it would be my mini super dwarf cavendish. It pups like crazy, it's blooming and if I could only keep one banana I suppose that means something happened to all my greenhouses. So I'd be out of space to grow one too! LOL......

For a fruiting banana it would be the :drum: roll The Rajapuri
My second one would be the :drum:roll The Black Thai

I would have to say a variegated fruiting banana like AeAe. :waving:

Ensete Ventricosum Maurelii gets my vote as well.
I like the way it looks, mainly.
What a tough question! ..... very tough since I just changed my mind twice.
I guess I'd go with Sandy's logic and pick the SDC because it can live it's life in a pot indoors and hopefully bear fruit here in zone 6.
( otherwise I'd side with lorax)
I would probably pick Ensete ventricosum, not the maurellii but the plain Ensete with the red midrib, its an awsome banana to be able to grow in England and it is less likely to shred than others grown here.
My favourite at the moment is the Musa siam ruby but Ive yet to get one to a good size.

Great question. You can see it depends on your area. In Santa Barbara, CA I have had great success with my AeAe's. They have lots of babies and hopefully I will get fruit next year. The variegation is beautiful! The other reason I like them is the Hawaiian story/culture behind them (for royalty). Lastly, Hawaii is my next destination where I am planning on growing almost everything. What is there not to like about them? Out of my 60 varieties anyone that comes over stops and say's "what are these".

Enset Ventracosum Murellii. So pleasing to look at and watch grow.

Out of the few that I have - the tall Orinoco stands way above the others in terms of flavour, ease of growing, amount of fruit, - just outstanding in all aspects. If you are growing for fruit for flavour - my order would be
Tall Orinoco
Tall Red
Blue Java/Ice Cream
Dwarf Cavendish
but I have to say that the tiny fruits from the 1000 fingers are outstanding in flavour - like apple and peach - but too small to be commercially viable in any way

Bob, (Hi, for starters), I like your logic. A little fruity but, hey, what are bananas for :ha:! However, that velutina in Little Rock sounds great and that's right next door. I'd keep the velutina, if I had one. Unfortunately all I have is a Blue Java so, maybe next time.

I'd have to keep the Manzano, nothing I've tried tastes as good. Besides, you could always go to the supermarket and get the standard Cavendish bananas.

Ensete Ventricosum 'Montbeliardii'
'Maurelli' is good but this is bigger
