Went to the store yesterday and found pomegranates much to my amazement - the first time since I have been here. They were not the huge gorgeous fruit we used to get in Iran - but wow! I'll have to see if I can grow some bushes myself. Anyone know how to germinate the seed? Anything special needed?

They work the same way as apples - suck off the yummy coating and plant 'em out.

yes - I'm sure they will do fine! Just amazed to see them although I don't know why they don't grow them here in abundance!! Like so many other fruits - if I had more land.....

Pomeganates like being dry and actually arent that tropical compared to other medditeranan fruits like olives. Cold tolerant to about 10F but the fruit will probaly drop with a bad freeze (certainly not a problem for you!).
Good luck.

Thanks palmtree - decided not to grow them after all as my space is so limited. I keep growing seeds and then have to find homes for the plants - people are getting cross with me! lol!
