A new arrival has just started to show a bud and I am excited as this one seems different. Tall and skinny (a bit of shade might be accentuating this) but with a gorgeous chocolate trunk. Tomorrow when the light is right I will get a shot of this - flowering at 12ft, the flower is too immature to bother with atm. This one will need propping immediately! After some photos - all wild guesses will be appreciated!

Tomorrow I will get the ladder out for some better shots of the flowers. And the trunk is much more chocolate than it appears here.

Ebun Musak’ will reach 10-12’ in height. This Musa is a green plant with lots of chocolate brown color in pseudostem. It will produce pointed fruit 4-6 inches long. This musa is nicknamed ‘Crocodile Fingers' ?

Thanks Tony - definitely a possibility from the looks of the pictures I have found! I will have to see how it develops.

The fruit are small and plump with VERY thin skins that just rub off the fruit when ripe. The flesh is more orange than the photos show and the flavour is delicious - not too sweet and a bit tangy and very banana'y - the best tasting one I have tried and Jim's all time favourite. Any guesses? The can was chosen for Lorax btw!

One of the ladyfinger group I would have thought - could it be Nino or golden pillow - the chocolate colour seems to rule out Raja Puri. I know it has split but we have had 18" of rain in 2 weeks!!

ROFLMAO!

They're Oritos of some description, Cass. (Sucrier group).

Do Oritos have a chocolate stem by any chance? Whatever they are I am going to throw out dwarf cavendish to make more room for these babies. Why do I never have enough room for the things I want to grow???? Glad you liked the joke!

They most certainly do - in fact, some of the shade-grown ones here develop a pstem that's almost black. I'd certainly never have any problem turfing Cavendishes for tastier varieties, but that's just me.

Thanks for the confirmation - as far as I am concerned they are Oritos!!

They're one of my faves, that's for sure. What Cass hasn't mentioned is how creamy they taste when they're perfect (when the skins start to stick to them a bit).

Yep - they are one of the best flavoured - can't believe I managed to find a plant - just lucky to spot something that looked different.
