I have a very old book that tells the journey of a French naturalist in the 1830s ... As it was often the case in this time, the trip was described by engravings; we see here a scene from a village in Colombia ,but what is the banana? "I think he looks like a orinoco what do you think?

Could be Orinoco - fruit looks chunky and angular enough.

Definitely a Super Dwarf Cavendish...:ha::ha::ha: Sorry, I just had to. Keep in mind this is an artist's rendering of the image, so it's not entirely accurate. Might make accurate ID impossible. If you look at the pic, it does look a little cartoony.

No the author of the picture is not an artist but the naturalist himself his name is Alcide D'Orbigny he gave his name to a palm tree :Orbignya Cohune...the very interesting thing is to know what were the species could grow in that time in all America...
