my wife brought home this cute little bunch of yellow bananas, but they taste like an unripe persimmon...disgusting. they look ripe, but how do you tell?

I look for the skin to split, but have had them bitter like that.

I've recently been able to get manzano's at the local Asian market. For me they have to look over ripe(compared to regular Cavendish varieties) to be at their best and then there is a short window of time for best eating quality.
