View Full Version : will banana crack concrete *picture
Do you see how close the patio is to the banana plant. I am tearing up this concrete and pouring a new patio but it will be just as close, my concern is the bananas will push up under the concrete and cause it to crack. I know a ficus will do this but will a banana? How strong are those pups? This mysore just shoots out so many and the mat is getting bigger and bigger. The concrete is gonna be $$$ and I don't want it all messed up in a few years.
Thanks.

As thick as one would normally pour a concrete pad for a patio, the banana will not be a problem. Only problem you may encounter is pups coming up right against the concrete, but they will not "buckle" your new patio... Let us see when all is done. Sounds like a great place to sit back and relax....
Thanks Randy! I was hoping for that answer. Yes, anywhere with a view of bananas is a good place. :)

Are mysores very cold tolorant? I'm in NW FLA right at the beach.
I'm in southern california right by the beach and it does GREAT. I had a bunch of bananas pop out last year at the end of summer and they matured all winter long. I was a total worry wart every time the weather would cool but I got a big bunch of fat yummy bananas in Feb. I love my mysore. It gives me so many pups (I have had to cut them out) & it was fast growing. I am on my second bunch of bananas and it fruited pretty quick. The fruit are short and fat and YUMMY! I also like the height of it, it is tall but not giant. I'm a Mysore fan. :)
