My first attempt at banana trees this year I bought a couple of dwarfs from gurneys have them in pots but I'm not sure what to do with them now that the temp is dropping. I have tried searching around here on the forums but have had no luck. Could someone help me please.
I live on the missouri arkansas state line, and I am wondering do they need direct sunlight during the winter do they only need not to freeze or what exactly do people do with these during the winter months??
Thanks a bunch,
Jarrod

I kinda doubt they will do well during winter in your area (especially in pots...leaves the roots more exposed to cold temps). My advice is to bring them inside and put them in a sunny window. That way you can keep em growing all winter. Otherwise, if your space is limited, you can try your hand at overwintering them dormant. There are a TON of threads on here about that, so I'll save my breath for now (and I'm no expert on that topic anyway....I'm a non-dormant overwinterer LOL). Hope that helps.
First year plants from Gurneys are likely to be too small to overwinter dormant in my opinion. This is my first time trying a few dormant but , they are pretty large Orinoco's. Definitely go with overwintering indoors and check for spider mites which seem to be the major indoor/ winter pest. Insecticidal soap and higher humidity does the trick. Keep them as bright , warm and humid as you can and they should do well. Good luck.
