Thank you Richard for the provoking article. I don't claim to any special expertise in this area, but these stories are truly heart-rendering, and betray the lack of will for decisive action in a timely fashion by the west, including the U.S.

Since the Slovakian war my disdain has grown for individuals (esp. in the U.S.) who use the language of hate and the politics of division to build positions of social or political power. I am still haunted by the memory of refugees leaving Sarajevo, with the U.N. forces along one side of the field and the Serbian forces on the other -- some spitting at the refugee families, others with muted pistols drawn and smiling as each random victim stumbled from the pistol shots.

Well, firstly, I believe this is not appropriate to even discuss these things on banana forum.
Secondly there's not a merit to what happened there and I doubt that anyone is entitled to make justice over someone and saying that he was murderer (like certain Serbians trialed in Haag and poisoned after they cannot be claimed guilty are referred to...). USA, UN or any other association should have never interfered in these affairs and it is widely considered an anti-Slavic attack which it is also taught at our schools to be.
I have several classmates from Serbia who lost their parents in "innocent" UN bombings (bridges, hospitals) and also my classmate's father died in the electrocentrale bombing with carbon residues. A man like Ante who was just doing his job died because USA and UN decided it was appropriate to eliminate the power reserves in certain region. Along with 24 other men and women working there.
What is the Slovakian war? I've never really heard about it.

Richard, I believe the responses and the article show that, indeed, there are parallel truths. Maybe this is not a Bananas.org topic, unless it is continued privately.

I have no hatred for any of the peoples of the area or the world in general. The point I'm making is about individuals who harness the spirit of youth using messages of hate and divisive politics. Certainly the soldiers who get caught up in the frenzy are as much victims as the targets they have vowed to kill.
It seems that individuals who use hate to gain power are present all over globe. We definitely have them here in the U.S. and you don't have to look hard to find them.
