My first four AeAe's that I bought this summer are all dead, which has only fueled the fire, I'm afraid. They were purchased from a guy in Florida, and all rotted while they sat in soil that wouldn't dry out in the shade.

Claire I am the first to say I am no expert, but it does not look like an Ae to me. It is very beautiful and definitely variegated, but it looks like it might be one of the seeded variegates like this one:

That plant is GORGEOUS!!!! I love all the white - It would definitely have to live in the shade, eh?

I love all sorts of variegated plants, they just call to me. Just so you know. I imported a Florida variegate from Thailand. It died. :( I have bought 3 "Royal Hawaiin" Ae's and 2 of those are alive and one died. I agree with you when you said that the younger plants are harder to keep alive. My larger plants are the ones that have made it (so far - but carefully holding my breath). Actually they look OK except for a little sunburn around the edges and live with the other bananas.

Thanks, Janan. They call to me too. I've got a lot of variegated plants in my garden.
