Wow I was looking at E-Bay for this week (I look at it once every week) And there are tons of banana plants, seeds, and more for sale. Today I got 110 results, but 10 of them will end in 10 or so min. So go there now and look. There are some good deals I have seen on there too, like so far a Travelers Palm is going for $4.96 (must bid), and a Ventricosum banana so far for 4.96 (must bid), a Dwarf Cavendish for $4.99 (Buy it now), and much much more...

Heres my results:
banana plants, great deals on Home Garden, Pet Supplies on eBay! (http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=banana+plants&_sacat=See-All-Categories)

It is expensive to over-winter these plants in most states so you will find bargains. Another place to check is Google Shopping. Here's a link: banana plant -silk -synthetic (http://www.google.com/products?q=banana+plant+-silk+-synthetic&hl=en&aq=f).

[The "-silk" and "-synthetic" qualifiers suppress results with those words.]

Yeah, I got my Ensete Superbum (plant and seeds), Ensete Ventricosum Maurelii and Taveler's Tree on Ebay (as well as Passiflora seeds and a couple Alocasia). Just make sure you read the details carefully and make sure you know what you're getting. There have been a few people who got things that weren't the species they ordered.

Shipping is another thing you have to read carefully on. One of the sellers that's on there a lot says they ship 10-17 days after payment is received. To me, that's kinda ridiculous...if I order something, I expect it shipped as soon as payment is received, not 2-3 weeks later. And make sure you factor in the cost of shipping....just cause the plant is $.99 doesn't mean jack if shipping is $20, ya know? I've had pretty good luck with ordering plants on Ebay...but just make sure you read carefully before you bid...that's all.

Happy bidding!

I would have bought every one of the 5 variegated bananas if shipping wasn't over $200.00.

By the way, has anyone purchased from this guy: Musa AEAE (Variegated) (http://www.tropicalfarm.net/product.php?id_product=12)

I was ready to buy his 3 AeAe's until I saw that shipping is $200. Ridiculous to pay that much for shipping.

Yeah, that's the type of situation I'm referring to above. Ya gotta read all the fine print so you don't get caught in a jam. Bids on Ebay are a legally binding contract, so once you click, you commit to it.

Oh, and $200 for shipping?? What do they put it in a gold-plated box or something?? That's ridiculous!!

Be forewarned, Like Bryan said... Too many times I have been looking around on Ebay at the bananas that are offered and as many as half were not what they said they were. That is why I would much prefer to deal with members from this forum. Quality is ALWAYS better and most of the time, if you deal with someone that has been here for a while know what they have and will not sell you something that is not what it is supposed to be. Ebay looks attractive, but there are too many honest folks that either think they know what they have but it isn't, or they are just trying to make a quick buck at your expense. BE CAREFUL!!!

That's howI got started in the banana habit- through ebay. I went with some starter plants from Wellspring and they have grown about as fast as my addiction has. Still looking for that good AE AE deal but aren't we all............

I just bought this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&&item=250519306383&view=all&tid=0&guest=1

I hope this is a good seller because I might buy more from him. I would love to buy an AeAe from a member here, but no one seems to have one available right now. I am anxious to get some in the ground before cooler weather comes so I am resorting to Ebay when I would rather not. I also told myself that I wouldn't pay more than $50 for one, and I've broken my own rule there too.

Clare_CA I tried to look at the auction but it said information was no longer available. I have dealt with primarily two dealers off of Ebay with good results. Both are in Florida like myself so the plants make it in one day which is a big plus.

1)Wellspring100- Obviously wellspring nursery in Lakeland- several starter Dwarf Orinoco's as well as fertilizer. For the volume they do I never was left out even on small buys and they shipped quickly. They were starters in June and now about 5' tall and very happy.

2)nkh2851- The best looking Dwarf Cavandish that never even showed signs of shock and had a pup with it. This was a big plant with root ball and all leaves! It was sold as a dwarf cavandish but it is only about 20" tall (since June) so I'm leaning toward super dwarf- either way it's a fabalous plant that I just seperated three pups from and is doing extremely well. Located in Lakeland as well.

Great point!

Some ebay sellers might not care what happens after you click your paypal pay it now button...

Its always better to no matter what you are buying or service you are getting, to find someone that has a passion for what they are doing and not just all about the dollar!

I am going to be very careful with my Ae Ae babies and make sure they are large size pups and not offer them until they have been in a pot separated from the mother for few weeks to make sure they have a nice healthy start and am not gonna rush them...

Just my 2 cents...

Martin

Thank you, Rscotth. I know it is a risk to buy on Ebay, and so word of mouth about good sellers is very much appreciated.

A good friend of mine that runs a nursery told me that this person is reliable too: eBay Seller: noveltyg: Home Garden items on eBay.com (http://shop.ebay.com/noveltyg/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=)

Something I've done when I once when got shipping "sticker Shock" after clicking "commit"- is demand reasonable shipping charger or leave negative feedback.
Although you're committed to buy- you can leave negative feedback for whatever reason. Most sellers are so scared of negative feedback, they'll adjust the shipping to something reasonable.

I have an ad on ebay right now too. I'm not charging too much for shipping or for my plants either. Unfortunately, my kind of items don't seem to be selling well right now. They do a lot better in the spring. I didn't even get any bids on my tomato seeds or bananas at all this week. Bummer...
