I started with two small starter plants this June and have really enjoyed watching their progress. One Dwarf Orinoco that is now over five feet tall and a Dwarf Canandish that has done well but only 22 inches tall (I'm starting to think super dwarf). The DC had water sucker pups right away but the Orinoco didn't do anything until the last month or so and now there are three sword suckers.

So I decided to seperate some suckers and put them into pots for the winter as an insurance policy for next year. I removed two water suckers from the DC and the largest sword from the DO.

I read and studied the sticky for seperating and the DC seemed ok but the DO didn't have any roots and I fear it may not make it. Did I get enough corm for this little pup to survive- last pic?

The last pic looks like it has onew root coming out. I bet if you keep it warm enough it will do just fine. I just separated a bunch of reg Orinoco pups to give away and kept one that looked pretty much like yours. I 'm pretty sure it will do fine as will yours.

I think with proper care, you can definitely keep it growing! It's got enough above the soil to keep the food generation aspect in check, so with the few roots it has, I think it could turn out okay!

I have the same sentement as the previous about survival. Just don't over water and make sure its in a good soil (well draining).

ditto. I think it will make it. pot it up keep it warm and not too wet. Also keep it in bright shade, not sun. Not enough roots to keep the leaves from drying up in sun.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance that I didn't hurt the pup too badly. They were all potted right away but show apparent signs of shock except for the sword sucker- go figure. The sword looks like it did when it was with the mother plant.

Can't wait until next spring........................
