I got crazy weather report from Rome.... the last week on wednesday the MINIMUM temp has been 26° !!!!!!! The max has been around 30 but there has been a day of very strong wind. My friend that is taking care of my cats told me that the big potted orinoco has been toppled over by the wind...SIGH! That sound very strange to me 'cause my house shield the plants for almost every strong wind of the area so it must have been a very special storm.
Now I'm worried 'cause I grouped 4 'nanas just near the orinoco to take advantage of automatic watering sistem and I hoper the Orinoco has not crushed the other 'nanas when fell down.... my friend said he put back up the Orinoco and that other plants are doing fine but I'm worried none the less.
It's typical of Murphis Law that the only real bad weather day in the last 6 months has came the only week I was absent from home........
It's better not to think about it... I'm going to cool down underwater... see you later.

...My friend that is taking care of my cats...
Rick, cats don't need care, just open the window and you will be surprised how viable they are. ;)

It depends how tall your Orinoco is, if it is was in the same-sized pot as Comune id Sicilia and had circa the same height, I can imagine even a weaker wind toppling it. It's leaves are like the ship's sail, so you ned a steady, big pot.

Wow... heavy wind has just calm down after two days here.... the good part of it is that the wind was from south-est so it has been warm and humid. Yesterday NIGHT it was 25 degrees and 28 in early afternoon.

For the moment my 'nanas can't complain about september's weather.

I can't provide a picture, but it has been quite warm the last two days with temps above 30° C and around 20° C in the morning. Even before it wasn't cold with temps between 25 - 30° C.
But it'll get cooler in the next days. No wind and no rain for a long time now...

My nanners still like it at the moment

That depends. It snowed in the mountains just a few days ago, yet we don't go below 10C here in the "south". Although technically, 10C during the night and 22C during the day is very close to the heating season threshold.
But indeed we heated up the fireplace about 2 weeks ago. It's dormant now... luckily.

Though I guess it's less problematic than what I'm hearing about Zagreb and northern Croatia these days. :drum: And here I thought how nicely it went by your country this year. Sava takes its toll.

The weather forecast says to prepare for the doomsday for the next week end.....
Very heavy rain are exected from friday evening up to sunday night supported by consistend winds from south east. The only good new is that temperatures will stay high for the season fue to the warm wind from Africa.

It seems like I'll have to put to good use my scuba gears the next week end... I hope my 'nanas are ready to withstand the heavy watering incoming.

You tell me. 2 years ago the frosts came in the mid December (night frosts!!!), one year ago (the worst winter in years) they came in November. Now it seems that they might be here by the end of the October. Really? That's not a very good analogy. This way we will have a permafrost weather before I start my PhD. :(
We had ground frost (so no air frost) and very chilly temps the other day, tomorrow might be a good day to see how it affected tropical and subtropical bananas. ;)

The first inspection on the balcony was positive, but it could take some time to see damage on all the plants.
Finally the weather is fine and there'll be a lot of sun today, but again another cold night is waiting, but not as bad as last night. I'll have to get a little green house soon, which I can set up on the balcony as a shelter for the plants...

You know, they are still outside, no time to move them in and terrible, very cold, very wet and very unpleasant year (regarding the temps) didn't really give me any time to take care of the garden as well. My plants have now a protection. Yesterday I set up my little greenhouse, which I bought of eBay recently.
It's 1,40 x 1,40 m and 2,00 m high. Still not all "family members" moved in yet, but some of my smaller bananas and more tropical palm trees already spent a night in there.
In the shelter, I'll have about 2 - 3° C more than ambient temperature during the night, which could be fine to keep it above freezing if unheated. But I'll add some heating soon.
I think it was right on time as it got colder over here as well. This night shall be around 8°C and the next nights will be about the same.

At about 36,000 years into the simulation the magnetic field reversed its dipole polarity over a period of only 1200 years. The image below is from an animated sequence showing how the field's structure changed.here's the link... Pretty bad forecast for the next 48 hrs here due to newly genovese ciklon! Heavy rain at the moment but might turn into strong, windy storm in afternoon and strong winds up to 65 knt tonight and tomorrow. Not to forget cooldown and wind chill effect :(
Add a slight morning and night frost, lots and lots of rain, blizzards... I don't know, but a calm, sunny, icy day would be muuuuch better.

5th night of -2 to -4 frosts (more at the ground). PK had slightly burnt leaves, some of them more, some of them less (not due to cold, but because the water vapor condensated on the big leaves and then froze all over the plant, melting in the morning... :( )

The other baby seems dead, but we will see.

Bug mamma is holding itself quite nicely... inside now, moved to cold, dry, controlled environment.

Pix when I have more time. :ha:

Just got out of a scary week-end here....... LOT, LOT of rain and strong winds . The only good part of the past day has been temperatures with a minimum of 18° celsius ....
Also (as usual) here in Rome's surrounding we got hit only marginally from the storm , compared to northern and southern Italy where there have been also 3 deads from flooding and terraind avalanches....

Next few days should be good with H.P. granting good weather in the mediterranen area....

The rain and the cold stopped here in Greece last Friday. Since then the weather is quiet, sunny, but a bit chilly. But from now on, it's getting warmer every day. Till the end of the week, highs should be around 20 ° C.

Last week, especially on Thursday was a nightmare. We had high rain and floodings.

The news reported, that this October was the wettest and coldest in the last decade. I hope November will stay like it has started now. The forecast is calm, sunny and mild for the next week...

quite warm here, but high winds from the south!
It's soon midnight and we still have 19 -20° C. During the day it was even cooler!
Tomorrow's forecast says 24° C and sunny, but still windy!

So far November was warmer than October (15.0 vs. 14.6° C mean temperature). And October was 1.6° C colder than average mean temperature and November is now 4.0° C warmer than usually.
Forecasts say that the unusually warm weather will continue at least for the next week. So, half of the month is/will be much too warm. If we don't get a sharp drop in the second half of the month, this could become one of the warmest Novembers ever. Anyway, my bananas like it.:08:

But you were never a one country with them. You just had disputes with them, that's not for independence. Now you are more dependant from them than ever. :ha:
How can that be an Independence celebration day, if you've never been a part of any of those countries and are the most dependant from them right now. Seems very funny.

From the history:
Austria, Slovakia, Czech republic, Hungary, Dalmatia and upper Balkan Slavia (The Habsburg Monarchy) was joined by the Polish-Lithuanian Sobieski army... and defeated Muslim Osmans after centuries off their European conquest 50km from where I sit right now. (you can also see the date in the video)

Yes, but the people were the same. Poland never split, because the people remained Polish. That's what matters. That they weren't forced to move from those areas, or there would be no more Poles.

EDIT: love your video, it was a great idea, really amazing! Poland would be among the most popular exhibits if they showed only this video.

Words I understand:
vjetar - wind
jugoistoka - something about south (understand only because I know a little Slovak)

Words I understand:
vjetar - wind
jugoistoka - something about south (understand only because I know a little Slovak)
je - is
zapadnogo - west (understand only because I know a little Slovak)
naziv - called?
ili - or (just speculating)
ciklonom - cyclone
Sredozemlja - Mediterranean?
:bananas_b
Very freely translated as:
Jugo or Široko is a wind that blows from the southeast and is usually combined with a cyclona (climatic pressure system, not cyclone!) from the western Mediterranean....(following text is about what else is called Jugo)That's the part that matters. ;) You should learn more Slovak. Frankly, after reading it and pronouncing it loudly, it sounds like Slovak and Russian combined, something that Easterners use as a dialect.
Btw. it's a cold and wet spell for Croatia.... Ay, Ante? :)

I know what they mean, but there are some illiterates here dumm enough to actually think that Polish is a dialect of northern Slovakia and they would translate it like this:
Where's the toilet?
What are you ****ing?

You know it's amazing. As a younger language, Slovak assimilated quite much from all the other Slavic languages and the result is that we understand almost anyone (from south to north, from West to East) with very little problem. That's however not the general issue (see southern Hrvatska and northern Polonia languages) with other Slavic nations. :ha:
Reminds me of a story in Croatia. A Russian was standing at a shop and speaking Russian, a Croat shopkeeper was standing and saying something in Croatian, yet the Russian though he (the Croat) was speaking some funny Russian dialect... really funny. It was Croatian and meant absolute opposite of what the Russian thpught he heard, they both almost started fighting when the time to pay came. :D :D :D

Oh yeah!

Btw. saw this on the news today and regret to tell you that I'm afraid of whatever comes next out of your country. :ha:

No, it was correct... but I can imagine the accent. :08::ha:
Just heard Lech Walesa with a Slovak translation several days ago... Man, it was like a dual line. Practically without any translating, it didn't actually need translating. But the accent... man, poor translator had a Polish accent and it sounded... phew... funny. :D

About the monument... yeah, it's like 21st century, you know. ;)

What, don't you use rubbers? Funny. I've always known that Poland was very strictly catholic, but this strict? Man... :08:
On the other hand, there's this giant statue of somebody resembling Karol Wojtyla wearing a typical, medieval Polish crown on his head... it was supposed to be somebody esle probably... you know... it's just funny. The man looks like a Pole, wears Polish crown,... who was that supposed to be again? ;)

There are two different things: to use it and to openly promote sexual practices at university.
BTW At my university boys and girls live in separated buildings:ha: - fortunately I did not live there (I rented a flat).

I don't know how you got that association with JPII, I do not see any similarities.
And monument has a crown because it is The Parish of "Christ the King"
The idea of that monument is controversial even here (like other undertakings http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctuary_of_Our_Lady_of_Licheń);)

I didnt say that my climate is wet, but October was relatively wet and cold and November is dry and much too warm, but the nanners like it.

By the way: no sun here today, but windy and now ( midnight) it's warmer than during the day. A warm breeze from Africa is blowing across the Aegean Sea.
