also, my CA Gold seems to be doing well in the heat and is reported to do as well as any fruiting nana in the cold.

You say you are looking for heat and cold resistant plants...just nanas or anything that looks good? (ya...in the eye of the beholder) I love my joshua trees. I have a yucca and a banana right next to them. They take it as hot as you can get it and do fine down below zero. I never water them..they just grow and pup.
