Just found this site and it's got tons of info. I've wanted to grow bananas for a long time and recently moved into a place that has the space needed. For my first season I went with basjoos because I'm in santa cruz, ca and we get warm summers/moderate winters. I'd like to get these established in my yard so it's not barren (I basically took everything out of the yard and started from scratch) except for some canna's and ginger plants that are doing fine. After these are established I'll try some less hardy species....I've seen fruiting varieties (orinico?) in my neighborhood that stay alive all year around, so I know it can be done.

While I'm new to growing bananas I've worked as a landscaper in the past so I'm pretty good with plants. I have one problem with one of my plants, but I'll post it to the cold hardy banana forum.
