I am new to this site too. I just became a first time parent to a Musa Basjoo about 6 weeks ago and does that baby grow! LOL that you took your banana on vacation because that is something I would do too!!! NO ONE will take better care of your naner that you!

We vacation in Florida for two weeks in Feb so I will be doing some research before we go to see what type of banana will thrive in a pot here in Michigan over winter indoors so I can go shopping then to see what is available. I know I will get lots of info from this site!
This is by far the nicest *bunch* of people I've ever met on any forum; banana plants must be angel-glue or something...LOL

BUZZYBEE!! i'm in upstate NY (zone 5, pockets of 4), sledding country (snowmobiles) just like MICH...so we get cold...but I've been growing tropical plants for several years up here now, and no problems yet..It's just I got worried when some jokesters from Cali were making fun of Northerners saying that we can't grow tropical plants..I say baloney, but wondered about bananas since they are REALLY tropical, right?

Gang, I love my plants so much...and I'm already figuring out how I can make it more humid for them during the winter...getting ready for them now...glad to hear that they go dormant. I read from some posters that you can actually cut them down (remove leaves and leave the stalk) and just hang on to them till spring?

Just wondered tho; my SDC is still growing like a weed, but my new one, the Dwarf cavendish doesn't seem like it's doing much..the typical growth is you get a leaf, and inside the scrolled up leaf is a tiny leaf ready to burst up once the bigger leaf unfurls, so it's like to leaves in one, right? well the new plant has just a tiny leaf and it's not going anywhere, so I wonder if it's too cold for it compared to where he came from...Oh well...we'll see. There's a nursery not far from here that sells RED or Blood banana plants, and I think I want to own one..they also sell figs..

But thanks again to everyone's well wishes, and welcome to BUZZYBEE!!!
