It has been my first year growing greenhouse tomatoes because I overestimated the demand for gallon potted tomato plants this year. So I decided to just grow them out and pick the tomatoes. They are paying for themselves.
But another basjoo story:
I gave Mom a couple of basjoo a few years ago, 3 years to be exact, for mothers day. She really didn't want them! But she put them out.
Dad sprays roundup around everything there, he's really bad about it, and he sprayed around them and they got all brown and died off in the fall of the first year. So she didn't protect them over winter at all, she just mowed her leaves from the yard into the flower bed like usual. Do you know her basjoo came up earlier that next spring then mine did that I babied and covered, and had more pups? I think the key is you have to just not care! She felt sorry for them last fall and covered them and she still has them.

thats good that you are growing your own maters....that salmonella thing going on and all they say organic maters dont have it or maters that have the vine still attached n e ways great job maybe u can sell some around the neighborhood and assure them they are disease free
