I'm in a similar situation WInter-wise, though our Summers are MUCH hotter here in the FLorida Panhandle(we get a couple of Freezes every WInter). I've heard great things about the 'Veinte Cohol' but it's so popular now with enthusiasts that it'll a a couple of yrs for the rest of us;>!
Our local Gardening magazine suggested a method in which you grow them as Biennials. Grow the pups as a single shoot the 1st yr, dig and store over winter then remove all but the apex shoot and plant after Frost is over. Feed and Water generously removing ANY pups that form. According to the article, many varieties should produce the 2nd yr...
