I remember seeing him live at U of Michigan in the early seventies, and I loved the way he always made us aware of our own hypocrisy. Poignant, controversial, intelligent, unpretentious, observant - are but some of the descriptive adjectives that come to mind when referring to George. He had a knack for the overt and sublime humor in most of life's embarrassing moments - and no one was immune. The character voices he came up with were spot-on, too. In saying goodbye to George, it is fitting to use his description of death in the politically-correct way that he despised....He didn't die, he just "passed on."
