I just got back from the Bahamas yesterday and went through US customs and was told that we must discard any seeds, plants, fruit, etc. before going through customs. If caught, we were told that we could face fines of $10,000 and possible jail time. Of course, I didn't bring any back from there, but I did "deseed" several plants that I am not sure what they were and a few that I did from Cocoa Beach... Glad your mom didn't run into any problems.
BTW, if you would like to try a hardy pom from Winston Salem, let me know and I will see if I can't point you in the right direction.
